Good morning everyone! Fraud prevention is more important than ever before, and fraudsters are getting more resourceful by the day. That's why I'm starting a new series on fraud prevention awareness, where I'll be sharing tips on how to protect yourself and your information. If you have any questions or suggestions for topics you'd like me to address, please let me know. One of the most common phishing techniques we see in the fraud space is through text messages. Many of us depend on communication from services through this method, making it easier for fraudsters to gain access to your phone and personal information. Here are some tips to help you be more vigilant: 1. Always go to the main website of a provider rather than clicking on a link from a text message you're expecting. Fraudsters often send messages that appear to be from a well-known service organization, but with their own link asking for personal and credit card information. For example, if you're expecting a package from Purolator or Canada Post, they will send you an alert, but fraudsters will also send random messages with their own links. 2. Don't respond to a text message with personal information. If a service provider needs information from you, they will ask you to call them. Don't trust any text message saying there's an issue with your billing or some other form of urgency in the text. Don't click on the link. Instead, go directly to their website and log in or call them. 3. If you receive a text message from a number claiming to be your bank, call your bank. Don't rely on any other sources for that number. If you want to be sure if the text message is legitimate, you can always search the sender's number on Google. For example, my phone provider Telus uses 6400 when sending messages. Stay safe and stay tuned for more tips on how to protect yourself from fraud! Most of all be vigilant! #fraudawareness #fraudprevention #tips #safety #information #fraudfighters

Too many people overcomplicate Fake account detection and elimination(...focus on these 2 things) In reality, you can focus on 2 things and see success: Building a fraud prevention strategy to deal with fake accounts can get overwhelming. With so many moving parts, it's tempting to over-engineer a complex system. Most fraud fighters have been there. When you first started… You probably thought you needed the perfect strategy with multiple fraud prevention tools, manual reviews, and much more budget than you had access to at the time. I did too, but after working with SHIELD… I realized less is more. So long as that "less" is extremely accurate and powered by some crazy smart AI😁 You just need to nail these 2 essentials: 1️⃣ Pin point with extreme accuracy every single physical device in in your ecosystem. This is the starting point, you need to get to the ROOT of fraud and know which devices are spoofed, faked, emulated and which are real. 2️⃣ Then know your device to user account ratio - Anything beyond a 1:1* ratio should arouse suspicion (*dependant on your risk tolerance) When multiple user accounts are controlled from a single physical device this spells trouble. Nail this and you will have identified the root of fake accounts on your platform and you can completely ELIMINATE them! Stop overcomplicating it. PS: DM me "Fake Account" if you want to destroy fake accounts on your platform. Image: Identifying clusters of device to user account associations and activities. Do you know what's really happening on your platform?

The non-obvious dangers of fighting fraud In the fight against online fraud, those who work to keep us safe face many hidden challenges. These aren't just from the scams they stop but sometimes from the scammers themselves. This job requires constantly learning about new threats, technologies, and techniques, which can be stressful, especially for those who try to teach the public about these dangers. Take, for example, @Pierogi, a well-known persona in the anti-fraud world with his YouTube channel, Scammers Payback. He shows scams as they happen, teaching viewers how to spot and avoid them. His work has helped many, but it has also made him a target. This shows us something important: fighting fraud is tough, and it can put those who do this work at risk. The stress of always having to stay one step ahead, combined with threats from scammers, can really take a toll on their mental health. Supporting people like Pierogi is crucial. They not only help keep the internet safer but also ensure that our online world remains a place we can trust. It’s important for everyone, especially those in the business world, to make sure these defenders can do their jobs without worrying about their safety or mental well-being. To stay a bit safer in our roles as fraud fighters, it's important to prioritize our security both online and offline. This includes various things but primarily being cautious about sharing personal information. Additionally, forming a supportive network with other professionals in the field can provide a collective defense against threats and harassment. Investing in personal security measures and being vigilant about our digital footprint are key steps in protecting ourselves while we continue the important work of combating fraud. Please stay safe! #FraudPrevention #CyberSecurity #ProtectTheProtectors #DigitalSafety #ScammersPayback #LetsTalkFraud

Ever wished your platform was a fraud prevention platform instead? Here’s a way to get your wish: Try building an internal device ID 😬 Why do I say that? You’re never just building a device ID. You’re also maintaining it as fraudsters try to crack it. When fraudsters find a vulnerability, 2 things can happen: 1) They get to work automating their new exploit process so they can ramp up fraud 2) They share their intel and tools with other fraudsters (potentially ramping up fraud even more) Fraud prevention vendors can afford to focus their time on keeping pace with fraudsters. That’s our business. But if your business isn’t fraud prevention, and you don’t want it to be… Building a device ID solution internally might not be the way to go. Building + maintaining fraud prevention tools takes a lot of resources. It might take more resources than you can afford to give it. Partnering with a vendor lets you dedicate your focus where it belongs—on your core product.
