How Do We Talk Deeper & Wider About Disability, Dignity, & Hope?

July is #DisabilityPrideMonth– a chance to centre the political demands of diverse disability communities and explore how disability intersects with all struggles for liberation. One part of this is heeding the call of #DisabilityJustice and #LongCovid advocates to recognize the ongoing pandemic as a mass disabling event, and the need to adapt how we hold convenings. We will implement multi-layered protections onsite, including: ✨ Free testing ✨ Air filtration ✨ Mandatory usage of high-quality masks (unless medically exempt) Together we have the opportunity to set a new example: we can resist eugenic logics of disposability and show our love for movements through community care. Despite progress, people with disabilities still encounter barriers like high treatment costs, inaccessible transport and health facilities, stigma, and a lack of proper training for healthcare professionals on disability issues. As a consequence, their mortality rate is 10 to 20 years higher on average. It's a reminder of the work we still need to do to ensure everyone has equitable access to healthcare.
