Polling LinkedIn: Amazon Prime Video users, are you willing to pay for an ad-free experience? What's your take? Stick with the ads or pay for seamless streaming? Personally, I'll stick with the ads. Bank of America analyst Justin Post estimates that ads on Prime Video could generate $3 billion in revenue this year alone. Studies show there is a 89.87% chance that Taylor Swift makes an appearance at this years Super Bowl. 🏈 🏆 In other news, Amazon Prime Video has officially made ad-supported streaming it's norm. As of this past Monday, users who want to opt-out will have to pay an additional $2.99 a month on top of their existing subscription fee. Morgan Stanley analysts are predicting that this change could bring in an extra $3.3 billion in advertising revenue this year. While other analysts say the revenue increase will be lower, its still… a lot. Most consumers have taken to social media to express their disliking of the change. Although I don't think any amount of Elon Musk memes will change Wall Streets push for profitability in streaming. Disney+ introduced an ad supported tier along with an increase in subscription fee, Netflix has taken away shared logins, and Amazon Prime Video has finally made ad-supported streaming the norm…whats next? A new era of streaming platforms has dawned, and the industry is evolving rapidly. In the midst of this rapid evolution, one thing is clear: all streaming platforms should have two types of pricing. Free with ads and a fee without ads. YouTube has long been the Juggernaut in the space, and everybody should be copying their model. Amazon Prime Video's recent results have shown that it works, and they're going to be going after a lot of new content in the next few years, specifically from live sports and live concerts to help attract users to their prime platform. It's impossible to fight against the free model, but by streaming live concerts and live sporting events and cutting in the sporting organization or the musician, it will help increase the ad revenue model even more. As streaming platforms continue to evolve, it's essential that they embrace the two types of pricing model and look to YouTube and Amazon Prime Video for inspiration. This week, for my Artist Representation Training course, I chose to highlight an article written by Dave Hayes for Deadline about Amazon Prime Video's expansion of advertising on their streaming platform. The article talked about the rollout of Amazon's new tier level prices, one including advertisements. Though the new advertisement tier hasn't been in rotation for long, Amazon CFO Brian Olsavsky called the advertisement expansion "an important part of the total business model." It was also reported that overall advertising revenue, which includes Prime Video, has a performance increase of 27% in the last year. Amazon also plans to be strategic with their ads, claiming they aim to "be useful" to their customers. With Prime Video becoming the next streaming service to implement ads, it will be interesting to see if other major streamers will add the extra revenue stream. Esquire Group Inc. 🍎 📺 Are ads coming to Apple TV+? According to a report by Business Insider, Apple TV+ might soon introduce an advertising tier, which means that your subsequent viewing of "Ted Lasso" could have ad breaks. Apple has recently hired a few TV advertising specialists and is developing software to let advertisers purchase ads across its ads and services using automation. Netflix's ad-supported plan, introduced in November 2022, has attracted over 23 million monthly active users, while Amazon's has resulted in a potential class-action lawsuit. Business Insider suggests that reaching Apple TV+'s "affluent viewing audience" would be a significant opportunity for advertisers. #apple #appletv #streamingTV #tvadvertising #mediaplanning #mediabuying
