Generational Health - Lessons from the Blue Zones Have you ever felt like a time traveller, witnessing the sharp divide between generations? In my medical practice here in Melbourne, I can't help but notice the remarkable difference between the vibrant health of older migrants and the chronic ailments plaguing younger generations. Let me paint you a picture: On one side, we have the 70 to 90 year-old European migrants, living their best lives with vegetable gardens, natural movement, and strong social connections - essentially embodying the principles of the Blue Zones. On the other side, we have the younger generations, caught up in the fast-paced, sedentary lifestyle of modern times, struggling with a tsunami of health issues. It's like watching a real-life version of "The Tortoise and the Hare," and in this case, it’s the tortoise winning the race to longevity. And let's be honest, as a GP, I sometimes feel as if I'm running on a hamster wheel, trying to keep up with the ever-increasing demand for healthcare services. But here's the thing: we can learn from the wisdom of the Blue Zones and the older generations who have embraced their principles. They've cracked the code to living a vibrant, purposeful life… And it's not just about adding years to their lifespan but adding life to their years. So, what can we do? It's time to slow down, reconnect with nature, and prioritize our well-being. Let's embrace the Blue Zones' secrets: a predominantly whole foods plant-based diet, natural movement, strong social connections, and a deep sense of purpose. Who knows, maybe we'll even start our own vegetable gardens and become the envy of the neighbourhood (or at least the envy of our younger selves). Have you noticed a similar generational divide in your community? Share your stories, and let's learn from the wisdom of those who have mastered the art of living well. This is utterly brilliant! Daniel Christian Wahl and Nate Hagens in conversation. https://lnkd.in/efbkGPRv Daniel & Nate, the over arching topic of your fascinating discussion is exactly why, at Artecology, we are led by craft and not tech. It’s why, in our field, we view groovy tech as counterproductive and for us an unnecessary barrier between human touch and the natural world. It’s why we recognise our species-wide collective tendency for delusion and embrace it as a uniquely human trait that can be harnessed as super power for good if we want it to be. It’s why we created our ‘Shaping Better Places’ framework. It’s why we turned away from the pursuit of traditional business as usual investment. It’s why we too often find ourselves having to reframe the notion of scale to those who struggle to understand our counter-businesslike progress. It’s why environmental policymakers, regulators, scientists, academics, universities, schools, governments, local authorities, corporates, artists, creatives and communities of all types rock up at our tiny studio door on the Isle of Wight Biosphere Reserve wanting to be let in, …even though we don’t claim to have any answers to the big questions, …we just have our hands, our minds, some materials, our friends, a bunch of transferable techniques for crating small scale “intentional habitats” for wildlife, and a belief that we might help put people back in the biota by working at the intersection where the inner mindscape meets the outer landscape.

Feeling the path humanity must walk... In the last two years, Penny L. Heiple and I have walked a spiritual path to awaken planetary consciousness in many communities across North and South America. We have held space for gathering to learn about Earth Regeneration with people all over the world. This grew out of the three years before that of gathering Earth Regenerators and offering hundreds of webinars on various topics -- which has now exploded into diverse themed dialogues among our members in the Design School. Yesterday we felt the confluence of many threads coming together for "bioregional mapping" so that local groups can organize themselves in ways that act in service to life at landscape and bioregional scales. It was one more step on a long journey that we are all on together. Our focus this year is on funding ecosystems and how to weave financial flows into the work of many local groups on the ground. I carry a special responsibility for weaving a planetary narrative across many diverse efforts. And so we take pause -- for this is much to carry on our shoulders. Tomorrow we depart for the Utah desert to spend two weeks in spiritual communion with Mother Earth. We need this time for rest and healing, and also for perspective. Because we know that next year will be a critical time for humanity to really get to work organizing itself bioregionally. Onward, fellow humans.

Forest bathing, a practice rooted in the Japanese tradition of Shinrin-yoku, offers a compelling solution by immersing individuals in the serene and healing environment of forests. I love it because it is simple, effective, and has strong scientific evidence to support it. https://wix.to/Hvv39vl #forestbathing #Shinrin-yoku #MSR #motionspecificrelease

Excited to share with you the season 2 Ep. 03: Our Changing World Docuseries : What Does the Future Hold? from the Museum of the Future along with the DUBAI FUTURE FOUNDATION and Dubai Future Forum with my colleagues Bruce Friedrich founder of the The Good Food Institute, Nithiya N Laila from SG Seedxchange, Dr. Angela Wilkinson Secretary World Energy Council, Prof. John Mankins International Academy of Astronautics, and Alice Ruhweza WWF International. Our Changing World Docuseries : What Does the Future Hold? If human life depends on nature, what would happen if we lost our natural resources, such as plants, animals, and water? Does this mean we are threatening ourselves with extinction? And how can we design a system that helps us create a sustainable future for us and future generations? These questions are answered in Episode 3, 'Our Changing World,' from Dubai Future Foundation’s scientific docuseries 'What Does the Future Hold?' Watch the episode on the Museum of the Future's YouTube channel. https://lnkd.in/eJ_iMd-k #nature #climatechange #naturalresources #sustainability #future #earth #civilisations #sustainabledevelopment #evolution #foodsystems #futurefoods #transformations
