U.S. regulator orders inspections of 787 cockpit seats The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), in a schedule published on August 21, is requiring airlines operating 787s to inspect the type’s pilot seats for missing or cracked caps that cover a switch for cockpit seat adjustments. The safety measure has been introduced after an incident aboard Chile’s Latam Airlines last March. During a flight from Australia to New Zealand, the captain’s seat moved forward and hit a switch that disconnected the aircraft’s autopilot system. As a result, the 787 rapidly descended 400 feet, or 120 meters, before the co-pilot regained control of the aircraft, a Chilean preliminary report states. The FAA directive creates another operational delay for 787 operators, including airlines in the Asia-Pacific. Top of the list is All Nippon Airways with an in-service fleet of 83 787s. https://lnkd.in/ge6Cz-g6

Our aviation system is producing a record number of airline pilots. The supply of pilots in our airline industry has never been stronger. The proposals to raise the pilot retirement age are a bad solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. Changing the retirement age could introduce uncertainty into what is the most complex aviation network in the world.
Fact: Last year, the FAA issued 11,225 airline pilot certificates (ATP-MELs). This is the second year in a row that pilot production numbers are breaking records In addition to the impressive pilot production number, the number of certified flight instructors totaled 93,567, a nearly 20 percent increase over 2019, further demonstrating that the airline pilot pipeline remains strong and robust—and there is no need to make unstudied, arbitrary changes to U.S. aviation safety regulations. Most airlines and aviation organizations have specific criteria for landing approach continuation. Did you know that the Flight Safety Foundation's ALAR Briefing Note 7-1 recommends that all flights must be stabilized by 1000 feet above airport elevation in IMC and 500 feet above airport elevation in VMC.These guidelines are crucial to ensuring safe landings. #Aviation #Stabilized

For all those who are used to Jeppesen approach charts, take a look at this original approach chart of VIDP ILS LOC RWY 09 published by Airports Authority of India. This raw reference data is being worked on for specific airline requirements by Jeppsen before being distributed to pilots. Specific information might include DGCA-approved company-specific visibility and DH/MDH DA/MDA minima along with filtered-out information like removing the aircraft category that does not apply to the airline's current fleet. The Boeing 737 Max planes have suffered major engineering and design defects. Recent incidents add another layer of complication to the already embattled aircraft manufacturer 🛫 However, #African carriers have kept their orders of the 737 Max model intact 🌍 This is despite investigations revealing that such planes have engineering and design defects, which has led to fatal accidents in the case of Ethiopian Airlines & Lion Air Group as well as subsequent incidents in the case of Alaska Airlines. Airlines such as Royal Air Maroc, Air Algérie, EGYPTAIR & Ethiopian Airlines have made more orders of the 737 Max. 👨✈️ 👩✈️ This is mainly because airlines believe the plane model offers excellent economics including enhanced efficiency, improved environmental performance, and increased passenger comfort. ⛽ 💺 The key question, however, remains. Why would airlines continue to make more orders of 737 Max when investigations have revealed major defects in its manufacturing process. Are they not prioritizing profits over safety, yet safety is what has kept the reputation of air travel intact for a long time? Check out the latest Africa Finance Today piece.
