The Biden administration's commitment to holistic public land management is paving the way for significant climate action. Our new report found that the administration’s actions could result in a 40% reduction in lifecycle emissions from coal, oil and gas on public lands, the equivalent of removing 93 million cars from the road each year. This is in addition to a host of avoided emissions and natural carbon storage also facilitated by the current administration’s efforts on deploying renewable energy on public lands, making conservation- and climate-smart decisions in the Arctic, and conserving old-growth and mature forests.

New York City’s peaker power plants harm vulnerable communities and have cost ratepayers over $4.5 billion in the last decade. The PEAK Coalition seeks to stop pollution from fossil fuel peaker power plants and end their negative effects on the city’s most climate-vulnerable people. The PEAK Coalition’s new report documents their progress toward replacing these harmful power plants with cleaner alternatives, discusses the challenges that are hindering the speed of the transition, and lays out potential next steps for the transition towards cleaner energy alternatives. Conservation and ratepayer advocacy groups opposed to a pair of Governor Mark Gordon's energy initiatives found they had odd bedfellows when far-right lawmakers also mounted opposition, albeit with differing motives: climate change denial. The governor's office successfully defended the initiatives, however, noting that it doesn't matter where lawmakers stand on addressing climate change because markets are demanding lower-carbon energy. "It's probably conceptually cheaper to do nothing," Gov. Gordon's energy policy advisor Randall Luthi told members of the House Minerals Committee. "But I can also say, and it is my opinion, to do nothing will have a tremendous cost for Wyoming."
