Rasheed Griffith discusses the factors impeding progress in the Caribbean and shares his optimism for the region. He identifies the decline in public sector quality since the 1960s as a major obstacle. https://lnkd.in/e9sEnBjE Griffith suggests that reforming the public sector could significantly advance the Caribbean by attracting international talent and improving policy implementation. He also discusses the historical impact of British technocracy in the Caribbean, proposing that adopting a more internationalized public service could be beneficial. Griffith urges a shift towards leveraging global trade for growth. The discussion also touches on the potential of dollarization, the limited utility of charter cities in the Caribbean, and the importance of understanding regional culture through food and history. #podcast

Pedro emphasizes the importance of deepening the relationship between Indiana and Mexico beyond just trade and advocates for increased academic exchanges and a better understanding of each other's cultures to fully benefit from the partnership. Using a metaphor of being 'roommates' rather than 'neighbors,' Pedro highlights the interconnectedness and shared responsibilities between the two regions, even though they are physically distant within the same ecosystem. One of the more complex topics I've wanted to explore since starting this podcast is how Switzerland maintains its neutrality while being impacted by current global conflicts. In this episode of How It Ticks, I sat down with Alessandro Speciale, the Switzerland bureau chief for Bloomberg News. We dive into Switzerland’s unique position in global conflicts, particularly how it navigates the Russia-Ukraine war while being geographically at the center of NATO without actually being a member. We also discuss how short news cycles and social media are affecting the quality of journalism. Given Alessandro’s years of experience as a Vatican correspondent, we also explored how the Vatican is adapting to a more secular world and what changes have occurred since Pope Francis took the helm. In this episode, you will learn: 🌍 How Switzerland navigates global conflicts while maintaining neutrality. 🗞️ The challenges news organizations face with shorter news cycles and the rise of social media. 📰 The differences in journalistic culture between countries like Italy, Switzerland, Germany, and the U.S. 🔍 How Switzerland is perceived in international news and its relevance globally. ✝️ How the Vatican is evolving as secularism grows, and how it’s adapting to these shifts. If you’re interested in global affairs, media, or Switzerland’s geopolitical stance, this episode is packed with valuable insights. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dE25NM_U If you enjoy the show, don’t forget to listen, subscribe, and share with anyone who might find it valuable! #Podcasting #Switzerland #GlobalAffairs #Media #Geopolitics #HowItTicks
