It’s May and we’ve got Pacers and Racers alive in Indy! As the Indiana Pacers compete in the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals and Indy prepares for the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500, we gathered experts from the sports world to share insights into the powerful role sports play in our global community. This afternoon’s panel at the Indiana Global Economic Summit featured Marissa Andretti of Andretti Global, Mel Raines of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, Roger VanDerSnick of the Indianapolis Colts and moderator Julie Roe Lach of the Horizon League. From the cultural exchanges on the field to the economic ripples throughout our cities, the influence of sports extends far beyond the final score. Our panelists explored how teams and organizations are navigating their expanding global reach and leveraging the power of social media to elevate the profiles of athletes and teams worldwide. The economic impact is undeniable – creating jobs, boosting tourism revenue and offering global exposure to brands. Indiana has quickly become a hub for the future of sports technology. The work of Sports Tech HQ will ensure the Hoosier state remains a leader. As we celebrate the achievements happening locally, let’s also recognize the broader impact sports have on the world stage. The game (and race) continues and so does our conversation on its global influence. #INGlobalSummit #Indiana #sports #economicdevelopment

The landscape of college sports is shifting dramatically with the latest NCAA settlement and the ongoing reshuffling of conferences. In this Sports Illustrated article, a former Gonzaga University men's basketball All-American discusses some important trends for institutional leaders to keep an eye on as we move forward: - Athlete Compensation: The $2.8 billion settlement is a game-changer, potentially leading to revenue-sharing with athletes. Institutions will need to brace for the financial and structural changes this brings, while also staying up-to-date on legal requirements around athlete employment rights. - Conference Shifts: Powerhouses like the Big 12 are undergoing changes, leaving non-football schools to face tough choices about their future. Should they seek new affiliations or risk missing out on major partnerships? - NIL Dynamics: As NIL policies continue to evolve, institutions must rethink how they support their athletes while ensuring they remain compliant and maintain their institutional integrity. These changes call for proactive leadership. We help leaders prepare for and navigate rapid transformations, ensuring institutions can adapt and thrive. https://lnkd.in/geyPmpEd Attention basketball fans! Indianapolis, the host city for #NBA All-Star 2024, is a must-visit destination for enthusiasts of the sport. While the city boasts a vibrant sports culture and rich basketball history, there are limited tourist attractions in Indianapolis specifically related to the NBA. One of the main attractions for NBA fans is the Bankers Life Fieldhouse, home of the Indiana Pacers and host to numerous NBA games and events. However, the arena lacks any significant historical or cultural significance, making it a rather underwhelming attraction for non-sports enthusiasts. Another notable NBA-related attraction is the NCAA Hall of Champions, showcasing the history and achievements of college basketball. However, for those solely interested in the NBA, the focus on college basketball may not be as appealing. While Indianapolis may be hosting the NBA All-Star 2024, visitors seeking a more diverse and engaging tourist experience may find themselves disappointed by the lack of NBA-focused attractions in the city. Nonetheless, Bankers Life Fieldhouse and the NCAA Hall of Champions are worth a visit for basketball fans.

Tourism leader focused on providing destination marketing and sales programs that provide economic opportunity for businesses and residents, demonstrate good community stewardship, are sustainable for the environment.
It has been quite the first week in my new role in Destination Ann Arbor with the introduction of this new initiative, the Rose Bowl victory, and then the National Championship. #destinationmarketing #tourism #marketing #tourismindustry #tourismmarketing
NIL continues to be the single biggest new opportunity for DMOs in college towns. Last night Will Johnson won a National Championship and game MVP for the Michigan Wolverines. Before Will accomplished this historic feat, he collaborated with Destination Ann Arbor to promote Ann Arbor as a place you must visit. Shout out to the amazing team at Destination Ann Arbor for seizing the opportunity. And thanks for letting this Wolverine fanatic play a small role in bringing it together 😎 #goblue https://lnkd.in/gShjmdSM

I get why a super league is probably not going to happen right now. But, that doesn't mean that each conference cannot form its own "entity" that would oversee the revenue generating sports and have the athletes from those sports as employees. In the short run, there will be inequities between the conferences because of the various media rights deals. But, in the long run, it strikes me that conferences could merge, similar to National League/American League in baseball and NFL/AFL in football. Not the craziest idea... Of course, there are other models to look at. Regardless, the current model is broken and needs to be replaced. #sportsbiz #collegesports
