What did we love about Kuttan or Manjummel Boys? They volunteered to rescue their friend (Subash), who fell into a cave, even when the trained professionals were doubtful. They may have volunteered even if it wasn't their friend. What happens when you volunteer to help those in need? You are seen as a light from God. Just like how Subash saw Kuttan, when Kuttan entered the cave to save him. Though Manjummel Boys talked more about true friendship, what we saw in it was the boys’ selflessness. After months of consultations with staff and volunteers across CHAS, I sat down a couple of weeks ago with a blank page in front of me to write the new CHAS Volunteering Strategy.
