Making the most of AI as we engage and support students in learning for practice -- a key theme at Vancouver Community College (VCC)'s Teaching, Learning and Research Symposium. The more I engage with AI tools, the more possibilities I see for making learning deep, fun, and 'real' -- as in, ready to apply. What's your institution's approach: Embrace AI? Ban it? Explore critically and playfully? #ai #aiforeducation #aiforbusiness #criticalthinking #explore #playfullearning

Disclaimer: Views expressed are my own and in no way represent my current or past employers The feeling is all too familiar - Every Indian will feel this way - I want to quote a memorable one by Thanthai Periyar (தந்தை பெரியார்), a doyen of Dravidian movement against oppression. “If a larger country oppresses a smaller country, I’ll stand with the smaller country. If the smaller country has majoritarian religion that oppresses minority religions, I’ll stand with minority religions. If the minority religion has caste and one caste oppresses another caste, I’ll stand with the caste being oppressed. In the oppressed caste, if an employer oppresses his employee, I’ll stand with the employee. If the employee goes home and oppresses his wife, I’ll stand with that woman. Overall, oppression is my enemy.” – Thanthai Periyar E. V. Ramasamy #standwiththeoppressed #fightforjustice

The Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science are seeking expressions of interest from candidates to join the NUI Senate. Candidates with one or more of the below skills, experiences and interests are particularly sought after to complement our Senate: ⭐Student Engagement/Representation We hope to engage further with student partnership, as they are key stakeholders. Retaining insight into the student experience and perspective would add considerable value to NUI's activities. ⭐Representation from communities underrepresented in higher education. Higher education is enriched by diversity, and the NUI Senate would welcome the expertise of a member who comes from an underrepresented community in higher education. This would empower NUI to foster a more inclusive higher education environment for all who engage with the NUI federation. ⭐ ICT As NUI continues to adapt its strategies and infrastructure to the technological opportunities available today, its Senate would benefit from a member with experience in information and communication technology and the delivery and implementation of complex ICT strategies and projects. Business Consultant, Legal & Policy Advisor, Marketing, PR & Communication Specialist. Humanitarian Advocate
History is made in our lifetime, 2024 year to remember!!! This is a historic moment as the UN General Assembly demonstrated the power of democratic action through an important vote standing against oppression. While abstentions and objections remain, the will of most members was made clear. Moving forward, continued dialogue and relationship-building are needed. All leaders must represent the interests and values of citizens, especially concerning humanitarian crises. Where representation falls short, democratic processes offer hope. For those discouraged by some decisions, remember that many good people stand for dignity and human rights. Students, workers and conscientious voices globally affirm our shared humanity. Through respectful civic participation, understanding can grow. Citizens everywhere desire peace, justice and safety for their families. With open communication and by addressing real concerns, communities of shared interest can be strengthened. Governments answering first to principles of human rights, the rule of law and people's well-being offer the surest path. Together, by emphasizing our common hopes over temporary divisions, a better future can be shaped. With courage and compassion, we can build the more inclusive world security we all wish to inhabit. This vision of cooperation, not retaliation, best ensures protection for generations to come. Dear USA citizens, European citizens, African citizens, Australians, Asia, Caribbeans, the Middle East, South Americans, and world citizens for ant-genocide please election time is coming, that is when we show them our power. We need to vote everybody complicit to this genocide out and make a new world order, where we show no more war but humanity first. Remember every vote counts. Peace and love conquer every adversity!

❤️🔥 ✊🏾 🇵🇸 Asna Tabassum, USC valedictorian, receives a standing ovation at the USC student awards ceremony, with cheers for her minor in ❝ resistance to genocide ❞ as the university prevented her from delivering the valedictorian commencement speech. The University of Southern California can never take away the fact that YOU ARE the valedictorian, ASNA. USC has abandoned its own values by cancelling your valedictorian commencement speech because of your solidarity with Gaza. Universities must practice what they preach to students. ❝ There is irony in Universities instilling values in students and then punishing them for exercising those values. ❞ CONGRATULATIONS ASNA. …………………………………………………………………………….. According to the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, by 2031, 68 percent of the jobs in #Connecticut will require postsecondary education and/or training, with 42 percent of those jobs specifically requiring a bachelors or masters degree. I spoke about this, and our increasing enrollment, with Melissa Sheketoff of WICC. I always appreciate her making time to talk about #highereducation! As the economy cools, higher ed will become even more important. Don’t let the narrative stick that we don’t need higher ed! Connecticut State Colleges & Universities and its institutions make up our state’s primary talent engine for #economicdevelopment, #socialmobility, and #communityimpact. But it’s not just about #jobs: higher ed makes people and society better. So all of us—#faculty, #staff, #students, everyone who has benefited from higher ed—let’s stand up and brag about the work we do. We serve and help millions of people every day. At CSCU we take that responsibility seriously and we could not be more proud.

As a higher education professional, I am deeply troubled by the recent executive order signed by Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt. This order is a direct attack on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, effectively banning any state-funded effort to promote these essential values. This decision undermines academic freedom and social justice, putting the future of our students, faculty, and staff who belong to marginalized and underrepresented groups at risk. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are not political agendas but fundamental components of a quality education that prepare our students for the global workforce. They foster a culture of respect and belonging for all and help break down harmful barriers that have long prevented individuals from reaching their full potential. By defunding and dismissing DEI offices and programs, the governor is sending a clear message that he does not value Oklahoma's diversity or the contributions of its citizens. We must stand in solidarity with the University of Oklahoma and other institutions committed to advancing DEI on their campuses and communities. Despite the challenges and obstacles imposed by this order, we must continue to fight for our values and work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society. I urge the governor to reconsider his decision and support the efforts of educators and leaders dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in Oklahoma and beyond. To support this cause, I would like to encourage you to contact your elected officials, sign petitions, and join advocacy groups that promote DEI initiatives. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to succeed. *Thoughts shared here are personal reflections, not institutional viewpoints. Your understanding is appreciated. The abrupt closure of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and the sudden resignation of its president, Kerry Walk, have sent shockwaves through the arts and education communities. This nearly 150-year-old institution's demise highlights a troubling trend: the precariousness of arts education in today's economic landscape. In less than a year, its President abandoned ship, leaving students, faculty, and staff in disarray. Her resignation, announced via the media, epitomizes a severe lack of transparency and responsibility. Leadership in higher education must be held to higher standards of accountability, especially when the stakes are this high. Imagine discovering your university is closing through an Instagram post at your graduation party. This was the reality for many, including incoming freshmen who had already committed their futures to UArts. Where is the compassion and duty of care for these young minds who dream of pursuing their passions? With the closure of yet another arts institution, we must ask: Are we witnessing the systematic dismantling of arts education? If prestigious schools like UArts can collapse overnight, what does this say about the value our society places on the arts? Are we dooming the next generation of artists to a future where their dreams are nonviable? What are your thoughts on the future of arts education? How can we better support our arts institutions and ensure they thrive? Will the newly established namesake, the University of the Arts Singapore, suffer a similar fate? Share your views. #ArtsEducation #Leadership #HigherEd #SaveTheArts #TransparencyInEducation #FutureOfArts

Wow, it's been a busy 24 hours in the campus #stopantisemitism space. Let's start with the guide issued yesterday by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni. The guide recognizes that last spring, many universities struggled to address #antiIsraeli #encampments and other acts. Supporters of the encampments defended actions under the #guise of #freespeech and many administrators were ill-equipped to counter these claims. ACTA suggests universities should clearly communicate policies and consequences--and enforce them. It also suggests that Boards of Trustees resist calls to divest and other pressure campaigns against universities by unruly students. Hmm, seems like a lot of University presidents, administrators and Boards have one more addition to their summer reading lists. (Let me know if you need hard copy Rice University / Reginald DesRoches /Amy Dittmar ) #stopantisemitism #adoptIHRA
