Recently, BMC published the findings from its latest study, which explored student perceptions about a patient safety course to assess its influence on aspiring health professionals and understand the different focus areas between medical and nursing students. The findings revealed a lack of baseline awareness regarding the frequency and consequences of medical errors, underscoring the critical importance of educating health professionals on patient safety in the beginning of their careers to reduce associated harm. https://lnkd.in/e59WGV8R That’s why we created our GME Handoff Training Program, a bundled solution for training residents using an evidence-based handoff communication method clinically proven to reduce patient harm. Lead Nurse Educator, Christine Vogel, MSN, RN, CHSE, CHSOS shares her favorite UbiSim Scenario! It's Earl Jenkins. Here's why: "Heart failure exacerbation was one of my favorite simulations to author. This scenario includes a complex medical history, many abnormal and dynamic assessment signs that look incredibly realistic, the chance for learners to practice SBAR communication with the provider and carry out multiple provider orders, and independent nursing interventions that help the patient. Heart failure is a chronic illness and is associated with conditions such as depression. It is important for nurse learners to care for patients and families experiencing chronic illnesses such as heart failure, to provide therapeutic communication, education, and empathy, as well as recognize and treat exacerbations skillfully." BSN Degree Track Chair & Recruiting Coordinator for Palm Beach Atlantic University Orlando, Arnold Palmer Hospital ED RN, Professor, Certified Clinical Nurse Leader, pushing others to lead and grow while loving people
Partnership, Communication Respect Compassion These are all things we desire and want in a healthcare team. For so long there has been a battle between patient-centered care vs family-centered care. As a future family nurse practitioner I dream of a practice where most of the patients I care for are the pediatric population, but still desire to care for families as a whole. How many people would love to be able to go to your annual check-up and your kid's check-up at one time? To get to know a nurse practitioner who cares about your entire family, knows your medical struggles, and can truly relate with a patient-centered focus AND a family-centered focus? How does this happen and how can I practice this way? Through those basic building blocks of partnership, communication, respect, and compassion. And maybe a little ingenuity! And this is something I hope to teach and model for every one of my students. The dream would be to be able to lead PBA's Orlando Campus to growth beyond belief but to also have an incredible practice day where families seek out this kind of patient and family-centered care. I know it will take hard work. It is something that might have never been done before! But I truly cannot wait to see what could happen and how well we can care for families as a whole. https://lnkd.in/ecSVARM3 Seniwati, T., Rustina, Y., Nurhaeni, N., & Wanda, D. (2023).
