It's an ideal and right thing to do, but the question is to what extent our culture really encourages it. It's time to ask this question and try to change this narrative where animals and their well-being is the last thing people are bothered about. Start with teaching kids compassion towards animals, desensitize them so that they don't jump out of fear and disgust when they see strays. Have conversations with parents at school levels so that even at home kids learn to be compassionate towards animals. Check what's happening in the name of backyard breeding and impose strict laws. These things won't change in a day or two, but at least let's try?

Happy National Zookeeper Week! Today, we're highlighting teaching animals behaviors through positive reinforcement and enrichment. Did you know that our zookeepers spend countless hours each day working with our animals to teach them essential behaviors? Through patience, expertise, and a deep understanding of each animal's natural instincts, our zookeepers build trust and rapport, creating enriching experiences that benefit the animals. Teaching behaviors isn't just about entertainment. These behaviors allow keeper to examine specific body parts like teeth, paws, wings, and more. These learned behaviors help with medical examinations, voluntary health checks, and even contribute to research efforts that support species conservation globally.

Under the Animal theme, our goal was to spark excitement and curiosity about animals. We took the learners to the sand pit, providing only laminated animal stencils and water sprays. They created magical wet prints of animals, which they enthusiastically repeated. This engagement not only heightened their excitement but also encouraged productive discussions about the colors, sounds, and names of the animals. It helped them enhance their creative thinking, social, and communication skills. . . . . #creativethinkingskills #communicationskills #comprehensionskills #sandpit #sprayprinting #animaltheme #earlychildhoodeducation #level3educator #canada #edmonton #alberta #finemotorskills #instareels #instagram

🔬 Science Career Coach | MS, PhD, CPCC | empowering students & early career professionals in science & medicine | finding joy in the journey, not just the destination!
👆Prioritization: we’ve all done it, subconsciously or intentionally, especially during the busy holiday season. 💡This week we are inspired by the zoo keepers of the world, whose responsibilities don't pause for the holidays. 📈 The primary job of a zoo curator is to maintain animal welfare, while also considering the visitor experience. 👆 For zoo curators to meet the needs of animals, visitors, and staff, they must prioritize what exhibits, programs, and outreach initiatives will be most beneficial and align with what matters most to each party. 🔍 In terms of your career, honing your prioritization skills can allow you to observe, evaluate, and focus on your most crucial tasks without feeling swamped or stuck. 👏 While the holiday season can feel overwhelming with added personal and professional pressures, a strong ability to prioritize can lead to more efficient and effective outcomes and less stress overall. 👉 Feeling swamped? Some steps for prioritizing include: 🔸Write down your list of tasks 🔸Delete at least three non-essential tasks off the list 🔸Delegate the tasks that can be delegated 🔸Determine how long the remaining tasks will take and schedule them into your day 🔸Do something to celebrate when you complete your tasks And remember a zoo curator never loses sight of whats most important (the animals), now should you - what's most important to you this holiday season? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #successinscience #zoocurator #zoos #prioritization #careeradvice #careerjourney #sciencecareer #STEMcareer #collegestudent #gradstudent #college #learning #careerfoundation #career #careerdevelopment #careeradvice #holidays #christmas #survivingtheholidays #happynewyear #newyearsresolution

As an educator at a #cyberschool with students from around the world, I'm used to fielding a wide range of questions. But, while discussing my dogs this week, one question from a student in Lebanon particularly piqued my interest: "Why do people in Western countries keep their dogs indoors?" This simple question set our class on a journey of discovery, and we took some time at the end of class to #research the evolution of dogs in Western culture over the 20th century. We discovered how factors such as suburban living post WWII, dog sports and service animal training, and the invention of pee pads and the doggy doors contributed to the trend of indoor dogs. But what stood out to us the most was the realization of how different cultural perspectives can be. In Lebanon, dogs are often seen as outdoor animals, while in the United States, they are treasured as indoor family members. Through this experience, my students and I learned valuable lessons about empathy and curiosity. We recognized that by being open to different perspectives and willing to ask questions, we can gain a deeper understanding of the world and its people. And as an educator, I feel privileged to be a part of this journey of discovery and growth, learning alongside my students as we explore the richness of our cultural differences. And also, let's be real: who can resist talking about these adorable pups?! #CulturalDiversity #EmpathyMatters #MakeLearningFun #DogsAreFamily

Nature enthusiast and creative professional with a passion to advocate for the ethical treatment of animals and contribute to a brighter future for the planet.
For those familiar with my journey, the love I've harbored for animals and nature has been a cornerstone of my life. From the tender care of chickens, goats, cats, and dogs in my early childhood, I cultivated a deep empathy and compassion for all living beings. This passion only intensified during my time at Michigan State University, culminating in the adoption of my first shelter pet, Jack. My current professional path has gravitated toward the fields of marketing and advertising. Yet, a lingering feeling continued to persist—a sense that something was missing. This introspection was prompted during the spare moments of COVID lockdown, leading me to daily hikes, a ritual that not only eased stress but allowed me to immerse myself in Michigan's serene landscapes. This period also marked my commitment to volunteerism at the Michigan Animal Rescue League, where I devoted my time to the care and rehabilitation of abused, handicapped, and displaced animals. These experiences ignited my passion to advocate for animal welfare and environmental conservation. Embracing a #sustainablelifestyle and adopting #vegetarianism became the natural next steps in my commitment to aligning my actions with my values. In light of these transformations, my career shift into the field of #WildlifeConservation and #EnvironmentalSustainability feels not just justifiable, but an authentic reflection of my core beliefs. I am actively pursuing positions with titles such as Wildlife Technician, Wildlife Specialist, Wildlife Assistant, Park Ranger and Recreation Manager, all of which resonate deeply with my newfound sense of purpose. Your continued support means the world to me, and I am genuinely thrilled to transition into a field where my passions are seamlessly woven into the fabric of my professional life. #CareerTransition #PassionMeetsPurpose #ProfessionalGrowth #NewBeginnings #EcoFriendlyCareers #GreenJobs #ConservationJobs #NatureProtection #WildlifeResearch #WildlifeManagement #FisheriesManagement
