Read my latest article addressing South Asia’s ongoing fight against sexual violence. The article delves into the deep-rooted gender inequalities and cultural norms perpetuating violence, and highlights the legal reforms, societal challenges, and calls for justice across the region. With tragic incidents like the Kolkata rape case and the 2012 Delhi gang rape as pivotal moments, the article emphasizes the need for systemic change, victim support, and an end to rape culture.

Strategizing public health interventions for violence, injury, disaster prevention, and holistic healing through justice, rights-based, and culturally responsive frameworks.
In Los Angeles, Trans Sex Workers of Color who use drugs face multiple forces of oppression that compound on each other, a significant factor in the city's public health/unhoused crisis. Discriminatory practices and exclusion in housing, employment, social services, healthcare, education, etc. pipeline people of historically oppressed communities into living on the streets and engaging in survival economies. It's important to remember that not all sex work is survival sex work. #Decriminalization is urgent AND recognizes the spectrum between choice, circumstance and coercion. To fulfill human rights, governments are mandated to provide care, opportunities, and options so that people have agency to make decisions rooted in empowerment- not crisis, criminalization of survival and punishment.
Our latest contribution to the UN human rights system encourages the UNSRs on housing & extreme poverty to support the decriminalisation of drug use and sex work as part of solutions to end the criminalisation of poverty and homeless. #DecrimNow #SupportDontPunish Read on & share: https://lnkd.in/e_uaESpi

Domestic violence does not happen in a vacuum. For people who experience things like poverty, lack of access to safe and affordable housing, and inequities based on gender, race, and sexual identity, the impact of domestic violence can be even worse. When we come together as a community to address these risk factors, like ensuring that everyone has an affordable place to live, then people will be less likely to experience domestic violence in the first place. #Every1KnowsSome1 #DVAM

Reports show that since the escalation of the war in #Ukraine, #GenderBasedViolence has greatly increased. Girls and young women are growingly exposed to intimate partner violence, sexual violence, online harms and sexual exploitation and abuse. More funding to help #EndGBV is urgently needed. Otherwise, we run the risk of normalising violence and harmful gender norms for generations to come Plan International East and Central Europe

These are the DOE's Title IX gender violence case numbers for last year. It is important to note that these are only the reported cases. As you can see, there are hundreds of incidents. Some complex areas, like Baldwin and KKP, have distressingly high numbers. Top DOE officials must do more to deliver trauma-informed services to survivors and train school staff about effective care-based response protocols. As a service provider, I've witnessed shocking levels of hostility in the last year to students and families who report campus-based sexual violence–lawsuit levels of incompetence. That's a terrible tragedy for our keiki. It needs to change. #hawaii #education #sexualviolence #genderbasedviolence #titleix

A culture of silence around GBV emboldens perpetrators and allows violence to continue in its various forms, from physical and sexual assault to emotional abuse and economic coercion. When survivors are afraid or unable to speak up, it becomes difficult to hold perpetrators accountable and prevent future violence. Ending this cycle demands dismantling harmful gender norms/stereotypes, empowering survivors to speak up, and holding perpetrators accountable. #pagedinitiative #endgbv #endcultureofsilence #MAP4girlseducation
