The sector also directly and indirectly employs over 700 Indigenous people and provides $120 million in total annual direct and indirect economic benefits to BC First Nations, with $42 million going directly to Indigenous communities. Today, 100 percent of BC’s farmed salmon is raised in agreement with Rights Holder First Nations. https://lnkd.in/e7_5MA4d

At Acceso - our #marketdriven model is built on true partnership with #smallholderfarmers. If our farmers don't succeed - we don't get product to buyers and Acceso’s model doesn't work. We get into the #foodsystem with and to serve our farmers. So for us, #outcomes have been the name of the game since day one. We’re excited to be a part of the Outcomes for Change Fund - piloting the first large scale results-based fund in a fragile state. Together with Haiti Food Systems Alliance, Levoca, IDB Lab, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Vitol Foundation and Sustainable Organic Integrated Livelihoods (SOIL) - we are changing the narrative on what is possible in #Haiti.

"Esther Penunia, Secretary General of the Asian Farmers Association, called for a major re-think of climate finance, urging greater support for family farmers and sustainable practices like agroecology. She emphasized that working with nature and empowering local communities is key to safeguarding food production in a changing climate." I'm very suspicious of all the climate philanthropy that is receiving tons of donations and government (taxpayer) funds yet neglecting diverse and widespread support for small farmers and agroecologists. #climateaction #climatefinance #regenerativeeconomy https://lnkd.in/g5p-3J5T

🌾 Supporting Local Wheat Production in Cornwall! 🌾 Seeing our wheat thrive in the summer sunshine is a testament to the hard work of our farmers. Cornish wheat is vital for a sustainable local food supply. It's encouraging to see local food supply featuring in election campaigns. However, we need more substantial investments from the Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF) to truly level up our food and drink sector. Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly have received a reasonable level of funding post Brexit, although more targeted support for our agriculture and food production is essential. It’s so important as a county that we push for greater support to strengthen our local agriculture and ensure a resilient food supply chain. 👍If you agree!!! #LocalFarming #Cornwall #WheatProduction #Sustainability #SupportLocal

The Murray Darling Basin is a precious resource for all Australians, including the dairy industry. Dairy farmers and dairy processors are united in our support of an extension to achieve the Murray Darling Basin plan. We do not, however, support buybacks, nor dropping the social and economic test. A buyback scheme will permanently remove water from key food producing regions and will drive up the price for water. This will mean that the cost of food production will increase, and jobs will be lost in regional communities. We are calling for Minister Tanya Plibersek and the dairy industry to work together in the spirit of bi-partisanship to resolve this issue that will impact generations to come, and find alternatives to buybacks to achieve environmental outcomes, maintain food production and protect our essential rural communities. For more information on the importance of dairy in the Murray Darling Basin region refer to the ADIC media release: https://bitly.ws/ULdn, this factsheet: https://bitly.ws/ULd7, and the brief report below. #ADPF #AustralianDairyProductsFederation #JanineWaller #JohnWilliams #AndrewScannell

There's only 3 hours to go until The Big Give Green Match Fund 2024 closes and this year we're raising money to help African farmers become climate resilient. Across Africa, the frequency of climate-related disasters like droughts and floods has more than doubled since the early 1990s, exacerbating challenges in agricultural productivity and food accessibility. For the 12.4 million individuals in communities partnered with The Hunger Project, heavily reliant on agriculture, these events amplify vulnerability to food insecurity, underscoring the urgent need for resilience-building measures against climate change impacts. At The Hunger Project, we're tackling this head-on. Through our Food Security & Agriculture training in rural communities, we're equipping farmers, like Fati pictured here, with climate-resilient and sustainable farming practices. These efforts not only enhance agricultural productivity but also bolster communities' ability to weather the impacts of a changing climate. Take action today to make a difference in the fight against climate change and food insecurity. Together, we can create a more sustainable and resilient future. https://lnkd.in/dd93KMqq #GreenMatchFund #Earthday #TheHungerProject #TheHungerProjectUK #SustainableAgriculture #FoodSecurity #Resilience #ClimateResilience #CommunityDevelopment #ClimateChange #ClimateImpact #SupportFarmers

As small-scale farmers and communities in rural areas—where 80 percent of the world’s poorest live—edge even closer to the epicenter of climate-induced disasters, there is an urgent need for world leaders to increase funding to provide much-needed tools for rural communities to adapt to and mitigate these challenges. To address these challenges, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) received record-breaking pledges in support of its largest replenishment ever, putting the organization on track to positively impact the lives of millions of rural people across the globe. https://lnkd.in/dYSW4KpW

I have NOTHING to add to Mathew Jacobson's spot-on comment on the Cargill-MacMillans, the owners of Cargill: "Put simply, it is outrageous that in 2023 one of the richest families in America is still profiting from African children laboring on plantations."
