Today’s announcement of the £9bn Unity agreement between the UK Ministry of Defence and Rolls-Royce is a testament to the power of partnership. This landmark contract will drive the development of more efficient and environmentally friendly nuclear submarine reactors, while creating over 1,000 new jobs and safeguarding 4,000 more – a huge boost for Derby, the Midlands but also on the UK’s industrial and economic future. At Indurent, we’re proud of our part in supporting Rolls-Royce’s ambitions. Just last week, we announced the handover of a c.148,000 sq ft bespoke warehouse at Indurent Park Derby. Built to the highest sustainability standards (BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and EPC A+), this facility enhances Rolls-Royce’s manufacturing operations while reinforcing Derby’s position as a leader in high-tech R&D, advanced manufacturing, and logistics. Together, these milestones demonstrate the Midlands’ critical role in driving innovation, supporting high-growth sectors, and strengthening the UK’s global competitiveness. #Innovation #Manufacturing #Midlands #Jobs #EconomicGrowth

Rolls-Royce has been awarded a A$17.7 billion eight-year contract from the UK Government, to deliver nuclear reactor design, manufacture and support services for Royal Navy submarines. The “Unity” contract aims to streamline previous contracts and incentivises more efficient delivery, a move which the UK Government believes could save more than A$700 million over the life of the contract, “creating more than 1000 UK jobs and safeguarding 4000 other roles”. The deal is considered a key pillar in maintaining the UK Government’s commitment to the “triple-lock” on the nuclear deterrent, which includes building four new nuclear submarines, maintaining a continuous at sea nuclear deterrent; and delivering all future upgrades needed. The UK Government also believes the deal “strengthens the historic AUKUS partnership with the USA and Australia”. “The eight-year contract represents long-term certainty for a major British business, building in resilience and capability across the supply-chain,” said UK Defence Secretary John Healey MP. “This will generate more efficiency and allow for effective risk and opportunity management, providing incentives to produce more for no increase in cost, including on work such as the building of Dreadnought Class submarines.”

The Defence Secretary has announced today a £9bn deal with Rolls-Royce which includes the build and commission of new Dreadnought Class submarines and contracts for the new Aukus defence alliance. The deal is expected to create more than 1,000 UK jobs and safeguard 4,000 other roles. Cardiff seeks to benefit significantly from this with Rolls-Royce announcing 130 new engineering jobs at its site in St Mellons. However, Cardiff Parkway remains a vital component in ensuring long term growth in the region, with the firm suggesting it serves to enable even more job opportunities in the future. The long term benefits of this deal can't be understated, putting necessary pressure points on HEs and FEs to ensure that a pipeline of high-skilled talent is readily available in the Welsh economy. Welsh Government’s 'Mission for Growth' should focus on ensuring that further and higher education institutions consistently equip young people with robust skill sets that not only meet the needs of anchor companies in Wales but are also transferable for future opportunities. With over 250,000 SMEs in Wales—many of which contribute to larger supply chains—success is not about ‘Big vs Small’ but about fostering a connected ecosystem where businesses of all sizes collaborate to drive innovation, resilience, and sustainable economic growth. Strengthening partnerships between education providers and businesses will create a skilled workforce that can adapt to industry demands and empower young people to succeed in a dynamic and globally competitive Welsh economy. 🔗 FSB Wales report: A Skill Led Economy for Wales -

“From adhesives to specialised tools, every component matters in creating a safe, efficient and world-class nuclear ecosystem.” Australia is already preparing to conduct maintenance for deployments of up to five nuclear-powered submarines from the US and UK to Western Australia’s HMAS Stirling base in 2027. With ambitious plans for eight more to be built and acquired by Australia, and Defence spending rising to $100 billion annually within the next decade, the spotlight is on local companies capable of meeting the security alliance’s stringent demands and able to tap into its multibillion-dollar budget. ISO 19443 certification takes 12 to 18 months to complete, and with SRF-West (the arrival of the nuclear-powered submarines at HMAS Stirling) just a few years away, we need the entire supply chain to mobilise and align with international standards. https://lnkd.in/gwyRKcGy

RR on a roll, 800p The Royal Navy has awarded Rolls-Royce (RR.L), a 9 billion pound ($11 billion) eight-year contract to design, make and support the nuclear reactors that power its fleet of submarines The contract with Rolls-Royce, which also makes engines for aircraft, would save Britain 400 million pounds over eight years by combining multiple contracts into one. Rolls shares were less than 100p in early 2023, when newly appointed chief executive Tufan Erginbilgic likened the engines giant to a “burning platform”. The company is now worth £50 billion as the 12th-largest stock in the FTSE 100, having repeatedly surpassed City expectations in terms of profit and cash flow delivery. Engine flying hours (EFH) have returned above 2019 levels and the recovery has stayed on course despite significant supply chain headwinds across the aerospace industry. The 23% increase in the price target of Jefferies to 800p stems from a 6-7% improvement in its earnings forecasts for 2025 and 2026 due to a rejig of foreign exchange modelling and a wider re-rating of after-market engine names. The bank favours Rolls heading into the earnings season. It said: “While 2024 EFH are now expected 2% above 2019 (vs. the guide at 0-10% above) we’re encouraged by the trading update comments of ‘increased confidence’ in the guidance. “To us, this feels like the group is on track to reach the top-end and possibly even beat its full-year guide, versus consensus and our expectations which are more modestly set still below the top-end on both earnings and free cash flow.” https://lnkd.in/eZyYuH_D

To make AUKUS successful it is going to require hundreds of small to medium enterprises. These companies often don’t have experience in the world of defence. These companies will also need to become a part the nuclear supply chain and how developing a nuclear safety culture is paramount in that effort. UBH Group can assist the forward leaning companies and prepare them for these exciting opportunities. #ISO19443 #DISP #AUKUS #Defence #Nuclear #SupplyChain #SME https://lnkd.in/ePHeM2Kz
