Working in MedTech over the past few years has given us valuable insights into the future of the Operating Theater. Over the next few months, we will be fleshing out a vision for what this future will be. Our first product in the OR ecosystem is a dedicated VR/AR headset. The next step product will be the digital interface. Stay Tuned!
The Operating Theater in the Near Future From our experience working with brilliant engineers and doctors at the cutting edge of medical technology, we have gained firsthand insights into the evolving world of surgery for doctors, techs, nurses, and patients. We are transforming these insights into what we believe is the near future of the Operating Theater experience. Over the coming months, we will progressively reveal components of a system that will revolutionize the experience and accessibility of complex medical procedures. The first product in this series of innovations is a dedicated VR/AR headset for the OR. This equipment allows surgeons to focus on the procedure site. Advances in VR, AR, and AI will enable clinicians to overlay digital user interfaces directly onto the patient's procedure area, minimizing the separation between surgeon and patient. This fully immersive experience eliminates the need to look away at monitors, allowing for more control and focus. The overlay will eventually include AI-driven recommendations based on thousands of past procedures, enhancing decision-making in real time. Specifically designed for the OR, where sterility is a baseline requirement, the headset features a one-time-use clear polycarbonate molded drape covering the entire front portion. On the side facing the surgeon, there is a one-time-use padded mask that is also discarded after use. For non-sterile procedures, the consumable drapes don’t need to be used, and the headset can be fully wiped down using antiseptic wipes. The smooth contouring and advanced material choices ensure a long life in this harsh environment. The headband is covered by a standard surgeon's cap. The headset comes with adjustable LEDs and strategically placed cameras for system function and video recording. Stay tuned as we release the entire system over the coming months by signing up for our newsletter. (Design credit: Max Burton, Toby Stopper and Steven He)
