🌊⚙️ Last week, as we celebrated #WorldMaritimeDay, we were reminded of the crucial role that innovative technologies play in the maritime industry. At ELIN Motoren, we are developing, building, and testing electric motors—like those used in the Voith Schneider Propeller (#eVSP). The testing phase is vital for ensuring reliable operation and enhancing #performance.   Our in-house test field allows us to simulate various scenarios, ensuring that our motors meet the highest standards of efficiency and durability. This week’s “Electrical Impulse” picture features a permanent magnet electric motor prepared for heat runs and operating point measurements.   What makes these tests exceptional is that we conduct heating runs without a load machine. One winding system operates as a motor while the other functions as a generator, with power supplied by our in-house frequency converter. Additionally, the induced voltage is measured without a drive machine—one winding system provides the drive while the other measures the induced voltage. ⚡   We also measured the cogging torque for this motor. A lever arm was mounted on the rotor and connected to a force sensor. The positive insights gained from these measurements reinforce our design and validate our plans for further performance enhancements. #testing #electricmotor
