🗳 The results are in: New Jobs for the Future (JFF) #voterpoll reveals that 84% of the voters we surveyed want policymakers to help provide better guidance to people to help them find education, training, and career options that fit their needs and that lead to jobs that pay family sustaining wages. Unfortunately, too many young people leave high school without clarity on where they're going next or how to get there. They face a vast array of degree and nondegree options but lack the information on which paths lead to #qualityjobs. That's why JFF partnered with American Student Assistance to create the ASA Center for Career Navigation. There are many exciting things coming from the Center! Sign-up for the Center's newsletter below. To learn more about JFF's new voter poll, visit here: https://lnkd.in/egwnQWiw #Election2024 #Policy #CareerNavigation #CareerGuidance

Recently, I've been spending most of my time studying and practicing for aptitude tests for both on-campus and off-campus placements. Today, I realized that many people spend years studying for the CAT, focusing heavily on aptitude tests, when they could invest that time in developing new skills (upskilling). I would like to know opinion those who haven't cleared the exam might feel like they've lost valuable time. On the other hand, successfully clearing the exam opens doors to prestigious institutions. #opinion #CAT23

While higher education undoubtedly offers significant benefits, including expanded career opportunities and personal growth, it's essential to acknowledge that alternative paths, such as vocational training and apprenticeships, can also lead to fulfilling and lucrative careers. Mike Rowe's perspective on the rising costs of a four-year degree is certainly thought-provoking. Watch at the link below. https://lnkd.in/e7FkA2_e

Steven’s grads fair well across all locations but as you can see, earnings potential in PHL mixed with its cost of living, may not make sense for all grads or all majors. While it’s hard to think so far forward, it’s important to think about what life after college will look like and how your major, career plans and location impact your financial health. #collegeplanning #financialaid #fafsa #collegeaid

A great article on the perception of certainty and its impact on the career choices school-leavers make from the brilliant Chris Targett RCDP A lot of our data confirms that students will generally go with what they perceive to be the 'safer' option, even when that takes them down a less desirable path. One of the things we try to do at Study Work Grow is explain ALL the pathways (including the zillions of alternative ones) so students can see and understand all their choices, but there's more to do in this space.
Today our fearless leader Chris Targett RCDP Targett reflects on how planned happenstance theory (by Krumboltz et al) can serve as a useful lens for considering how students approach their post-18 choices. This thoughtful post also serves as a call to action for educators and career development practitioners to make sure we are encouraging students to truly consider all the options available to them. https://lnkd.in/e2Dr3PbS #careers #careerdevelopment #education
