The American Lung Association's 2024 State of the Air report ranks the cleanest and most polluted places to live in the U.S. Not one city in Louisiana was listed among the most polluted cities for ozone and particulate matter. Several Louisiana cities, however, were included on the list of cleanest cities. #itsokaytobesmart 💡

How clean is the air in your town or city? Did you know air pollution is the leading risk factor for death causing around 8.1 million premature deaths globally a yar from stroke, heart disease and lung cancer. Saturday marked International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies! A day designated by the United Nations to raise awareness about the importance of clean air and to promote actions to improve air quality around the world. The year’s theme is invest in #CleanAirNow. Investing in Green infrastructure and urban greening is one of the ways we can make urban air better. #greenwalls #living walls #greeninfrastructure.

You can stop holding your breath, because the wait is over: the American Lung Association's 2024 State of the Air report has been released, and North Carolina is faring pretty well. Or, shall I say, breathing a little easier? With regard to ground level ozone pollution (think cars and trucks), from among the 30 of our 100 counties where air quality data is captured, only a handful had orange days, and none had red or purple (bad to worse) days. Particle pollution results were much the same among the 17 of 100 counties where air quality data is captured. Nothing over a code orange was reported. Congratulations to the City of Wilmington, NC for making it into the top five cleanest cities in the US! That's our good news. According to the report, in spite of improvements in cleaning up air pollution, 131.2 million people living in America "still live in places with failing grades for unhealthy levels of ozone and particle pollution." People of color were more than twice as likely as white people to live in a county with three failing grades. How do you make it easy for non-specialists to immediately understand the air quality around us? Could we make it so easy even a child can understand when their health is at risk? Answer: let them see the pollution level for themselves. It’s easily done with a lamp that displays the colours of the UKs Air Quality Index, in response to the data from a Praxis monitor. Precision air quality data that’s easy to see. Our partners Earth Cubs are helping us to find Schools who want to help us gather demonstration data, read more here ...

It's been 37 years since the world took historical step up to protect the Ozone layer that protects us from the harmful UV rays, by signing the Montreal Protocol , that recommended phasing out of Ozone depleting substances. And yes, the Ozone layer is repairing itself. It is estimated that by mid century the Ozone layer will revert to the 1980's level. This should inspire us that if humankind comes together and works towards. common goal, we can actually help preserve the planet WhiteSpace Consulting & Capability Building https://lnkd.in/gfHiDZKi

Today, the American Lung Association released our 25th Annual “State of the Air” Report. The American Lung Association’s new “State of the Air” report finds that 131 million people (nearly 4 in 10) live in counties that had unhealthy levels of ozone or particle pollution. The report finds that spikes in deadly particle pollution are the worst they’ve been in 25 years. People in the U.S. experienced more days with ‘very unhealthy’ and ‘hazardous’ air quality because of particle pollution than in the history of the report. The report found that a person of color in the U.S. is 2.3 times more likely than a white individual to live in a community with a failing grade on all three pollution measures. The Lung Association is urging EPA to set long overdue stronger national limits on ozone pollution. Stronger limits would help people protect themselves and drive cleanup of polluting sources across the country. See the full report results and sign the petition at Lung.org/SOTA.

SUPER interesting initiative using Felt as the geospatial engine behind it: "Wondering what's in your water? Now you can find out. The Watershed Pollution Map reveals a huge range of potential pollution sources that can harm rivers, lakes, groundwater, coasts and more." #sustainability #awareness
