Myth: Sheltered dogs are hyper and poorly behaved. Truth: As you can imagine, their world's have been turned upside-down. Often their erratic behavior is the result of unfamiliar environments. With routine, boundaries and training, they typically blossom into model pets. Let's be real, shelters are often understaffed and in need of support. Animals spend too much time in their small kennels. When they have the chance to get out, they need to burn off pent-up energy which can seem like they are hyper. In reality, with enough exercise and socialization, that behavior goes away, and they are more relaxed overall.
