In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., may we remember to focus on correcting injustices today. But let’s begin with the injustices that are within our own sphere of influence, even though it’s tempting to think of the enormous injustices taking place everywhere in the world today. Change begins with one person. Change begins with our own thoughts and our own actions. If we want “things” to change, first we must root out the injustices within ourselves: our own personal biases, erroneous assumptions, and negative judgments. Not only about others, but about *ourselves.* When we cultivate love and peace within ourselves, it naturally ripples outward to everyone and everything we encounter. Love *yourself* today first, and that love will extend throughout our “inescapable network of mutuality” to begin the healing work of dissolving injustice everywhere. Happy Martin Luther King Day to all from the team at VetBilling. #MLKDay2024 #MartinLutherKingJrDay #justice #mutuality #wisdom #compassion #empathy #peace #vetbilling

Thinking a lot about love on this pre MLK Day as my students and I are in the midst of a unit on religions and belief systems. Wow, did Dr King push us to love... Here is one 2 minute clip of Dr King talking about different types of love and why he tried to love the people "who are beating on us and bombing our houses and kicking our children around". "Agape is not something affectionate. It is understanding and creative redemptive goodwill for all men. It is an overflowing love which seeks nothing in return. Theologians would say that it is the love of God operating in the human heart. And when one rises to love on this level he loves men not because he likes him, but he loves every man because God loves them. So he rises through the level of hating the system rather than the individual who is caught up in that system. He loves the person and hates the evil deed. And I think this is what Jesus meant when he said love your enemies and I'm happy that he didn't say like your enemies because it's pretty difficult to like some people." NOTES - 1) Transcript is my own rushed effort to transcribe via Youtube, etc. Errors are my own. 2) I will circle back later today and identify the context of the video as the Youtube poster did not include it. 3) Wearing my historian hat, I love to share additional links. Here is a good one about "Agape" from Stanford's Martin Luther King Jr Research and Education Institute: https://lnkd.in/eqVpABdK

Empowering people to tap into their full potential by becoming a better version of themselves using a proven system to achieve success!!!
In a world often overshadowed by darkness and hate, the words of Martin Luther King Jr. resonate more than ever: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." These words are not just a philosophical musing; they are a call to action, a reminder that in the face of adversity, it is love and light that will prevail. When faced with darkness, our instinct might be to fight fire with fire, to meet hate with hate. But history has shown us time and time again that this only leads to a never-ending cycle of violence and destruction. It takes courage to break this cycle, to choose love over hate, and light over darkness. Love has a transformative power, capable of melting even the coldest of hearts. It is a force that transcends boundaries, unites us as one, and gives us the strength to overcome any obstacle. Similarly, light has the power to illuminate the darkest of corners, to reveal the beauty that lies hidden within. So, let us heed the words of Martin Luther King Jr. and be the light in the darkness, the love in a world filled with hate. Let us be the change we wish to see, for only then can we truly drive out the darkness and usher in a new era of peace and understanding.
