Note: We will not address case-specific questions or issues under active litigation. 📣 Key Details: Announcement: Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas extended and redesignated Ethiopia for TPS for 18 months on April 12, 2024. Extension: Current TPS beneficiaries can retain their status through Dec. 12, 2025, if they meet eligibility requirements. The Home Office have recently released the latest migration figures (for the year ending December 2023). This link provides an overview of the figures. There are no real surprises: - There were more (20%) people coming to the UK to work, study, join their families and seek humanitarian support than in 2022. - There were less grants for settlement but more grants of British citizenship than the previous year. - Less people entered immigration detention than in 2022 (although this figure is distorted by the fact that individuals from small boat arrivals were processed at Manston which is not classed as a part of the 'detention estate'). - Enforced returns (those forced to leave the UK) increased by 66%. - Voluntary removals increased by 76%. - There were 36,704 irregular arrivals detected during 2023 (we'll never know how many were undetected). - 5.7 Million were granted settled or pre-settled status through the European Union Settlement Scheme (EUSS). Canadian Immigration lawyers have long known that there were notable differences in processing times among IRCC visa offices. While there can be many factors in individual visa offices that aggravate processing times (demand for services, country conditions, temporary issues related to local unrest, wars etc.) unequal allocation of critical staff needs to be addressed. Fairness in processing is critical to our immigration system. #immigrationlawyer #immigrationlaw #immigrationattorney #visaprocessing Babel Immigration Law Professional Corporation
The unbalanced allocation of staff to visa offices in various regions of the world has led to concerns about a bias toward immigration processing for some regions of the world over others. ://https://lnkd.in/eAWjBSQn

USCIS Issues Final Rule to Adjust Certain Immigration and Naturalization Fees WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) published a final rule to adjust certain immigration and naturalization benefit request fees for the first time since 2016. The final rule will allow USCIS to recover a greater share of its operating costs and support more timely processing of new applications. The final rule is the result of a comprehensive fee review, as required by law, and follows the January 2023 publication of a notice of proposed rulemaking. The review concluded that the current fee schedule falls far short in recovering the full cost of agency operations, including the necessary expansion of humanitarian programs, federally mandated pay raises, additional staffing requirements, and other essential investments.
