Senior Software Engineer | Multiple USA Startups experience | AWS Serverless | Node.js | OSS Creator
CTO: Our hire from last week is struggling building the new API for our ML system, the endpoint basically sucks, bad security practices and struggled configuring the services in AWS. CEO: 🤔, can you remind me why we didn’t hire Ruben? He seems very strong for such things. CTO: yeah, but he didn’t passed our Leetcode exercise. CEO: 🤔 I see, yeah, that’s important you know, cause computer science 🧪 CTO: Yeah, those tests are more important than hand ons experience. We don’t need people like Ruben. We need algorithms people! Ruben: 😅 well, you are right, I didn’t perform well doing Leetcode, but its a matter of time, I will do incredible well eventually. You know, I’ve been doing product development from the last 15 years, not solving this math puzzles. 🧩 New hire: 😅 well, you are right, I didn’t perform well working with AWS and writing highly scalable systems. I will do incredible well eventually while working here. You know, I’ve been doing Leetcode from the last 2 years while studying CS not actually doing highly available distributed systems.

Aspiring Network Technician | CompTIA Network+ Candidate | Experienced Estimator with Strong Analytical and Technical skills
Sometimes in tech, we have to let go of the good to make way for the great. The latest example - #Amazon's decision to phase out WorkDocs, its online file storage service. As #ITprofessionals and those #breakingintotech, this move underscores the need to sometimes pivot and prioritize enterprise-level projects over smaller-scale ones. But it's not just about cutting down; every closed door brings about fresh openings. Could this be a golden opportunity for up-and-coming players in the tech industry to fill the void? Reflecting on these industry-wide choices can guide our strategic decisions - when to scale down, when to amp up, and which avenues to explore. Pertinent questions may arise - Are we hanging on to services better left in the past? Are we creating spaces for new opportunities? Put your thoughts into action. Reflect, reimagine and reignite your tech strategies. Because sometimes, to excel in tech, you must accept the ebb and flow, knowing well that evolution is key. #TechTrends #IndustryInsights

You wouldn't go to a butcher for tofu 💭 Now and again, I stumble across a 'bums on seats' consultancy, exchanging human capital for cash. Although their 23' plate BMW M3 looks tidy, the clients and candidates are left in the dust - choking on the exhaust fumes. At Adroit, we are built and run by engineers, with 30+ years of experience as senior DevOps leaders. The benefit, a network that enables us to place strategic fits by challenging your project. Yes, it's difficult to be challenged, by role requirements, by tech stack, by engineers who have been there, done that, and got the t-shirt. However, the knowledge we impart remains a powerful asset to your business - long after the post-project dust has settled. From challenge comes growth, and this is how we determine the 'best fit'. Working with you, not for you 👉 adroitcc.io #adroit #engineering #cloud #data #recruitment

I've never met a "business change person" working in FinOps. Business change professionals have dedicated themselves to the process and people elements of change, see the definition I just pulled off Google, below. These are the core skills that are missing from FinOps! FinOps is a crazy world of technology people drowning themselves in data and widgets instead of thinking about: "How will I make engineering teams cost-conscious?" Should we be surprised that FinOps usually fails because it doesn't embrace the things that drive change? My background in delivering large business transformation programmes makes this point very obvious to me, yet no-one else in this industry even discusses it!

🌟 Exciting Career Update! From Hardware Specialist to FinOps Guru 🌟 Hello LinkedIn fam! 👋 I wanted to share a bit of my career journey with you all because it's been quite a transformational ride! When I first started out in my current job, I was hired as a hardware specialist. At that time, my responsibilities mainly revolved around estimating hardware needs, designing infrastructure projects, liaising with vendors, and ensuring the smooth procurement and delivery of software and resources for virtual appliances. Additionally, I embarked on the journey to the cloud alongside my company, making capacity forecasts to support our growing needs. But as time went on, I found myself increasingly drawn to aspects of the job that went beyond traditional hardware tasks. I realized that my role had evolved significantly and encompassed a wide range of responsibilities that extended into financial operations and optimization. Confused about how to label my newfound responsibilities, I embarked on a quest to identify the essence of what I was doing. That's when I stumbled upon the term "FinOps." Curious to learn more, I turned to ChatGPT for insights, and to my amazement, it perfectly encapsulated the myriad tasks I had been handling with precision and expertise. So what exactly is FinOps, you might ask? Well, it's the practice of bringing financial accountability to the variable spend model of cloud, enabling distributed teams to make informed decisions around cloud usage and cost optimization. In simpler terms, it's about managing cloud finances effectively to drive business value and efficiency. Realizing that I had inadvertently transitioned into the realm of FinOps was a revelation for me. It not only provided clarity about my current role but also opened up exciting avenues for further growth and specialization within this dynamic field. As I reflect on this journey, I'm reminded of the importance of adaptability and continuous learning in today's rapidly evolving tech landscape. Embracing new challenges and embracing change has not only broadened my skill set but has also enriched my professional journey in ways I never imagined. So here's to embracing the unexpected twists and turns that shape our careers and to the endless possibilities that lie ahead! 🚀 #CareerJourney #FinOps #Adaptability #ContinuousLearning

The growing capabilities of LLMs are already reshaping the job market, and the data space is no exception. Recent layoffs at Google are just one example of the changes that are happening. These changes are compounded by data strategy and architecture inefficiency in the modern cloud and tools landscape. However, the good news is that this reshaping will ultimately be for the better. Exciting times are ahead for the data industry! 💪 #data #dataarchitecture #platformengineering

I'm a pivoter. I've held many different job titles in my career, and to most people, it looks like a lack of career progression. I've now held the titles of: - Front-End Engineer - Coding Instructor - Site Reliability Engineer - Data Scientist - Software Engineer, Machine Learning Platform - Backend Engineer With every title, I thought I had found my life's calling and that I would grow into a senior role. When I was an SRE, I figured I would eventually become a senior SRE, but then I got accepted into my dream school. Looking at my resume, it might seem like I've quit or given up on my career, but the truth is, I left each position because of unexpected opportunities that I simply couldn’t pass up. You might call it impatience, impulsiveness, or lack of commitment, but honestly, holding every single one of these positions has actually helped my career. At Hackathons, my React knowledge has been a game-changer for our team. Knowing how to manipulate data has given me a better understanding of my financial situation and patterns, and my knowledge of Cloud technologies has been a pillar in my career. With every leap I’ve taken, my biggest fears have been: - Will this impact my career? - How will it look on my CV? - What if I fail? But let me tell you, learning so many technologies and gaining a broad range of “medium” level knowledge has actually helped me reduce the learning curve in every new challenge I face. In the end, every pivot has only strengthened my adaptability, broadened my skill set, and prepared me for whatever comes next in my career journey. After all, linear paths are overrated.

Developing a High-Performing Tech Team for a Private Equity Data Analytics Client in Just 8 Months 🚀 When this Private Equity Data Analytics company first approached us in March, their goal was clear but focused: they needed to hire a Head of Engineering and bring in a few developers to support their growing roadmap. As we dove into their vision, it became clear that building a solid foundation required more than just filling a few roles. Together, we aligned on a strategic hiring plan to scale the entire engineering and product team, and we got to work. Fast forward to today, we’ve successfully placed: 🔸 Head of Engineering 🔸 2 DevOps Engineers 🔸 3 Product Designers 🔸 2 Product Managers 🔸 2 Data Engineers 🔸 12 Software Engineers Each hire was carefully vetted not just for technical ability but also for culture fit, ensuring a cohesive team ready to take the business to the next level. 🚀 This journey highlights how partnership, trust, and agility can transform a hiring plan. What started as a search for a few key hires evolved into a full-scale engineering and product build-out—and we're just getting started! Looking forward to the impact this powerhouse team will create 🔥
