🧘♂️ Laughter yoga combines yoga’s breath work and gentle movement with laughter therapy, the ancient practice of effectively using laughter to minimize stresses. 🧠 Laughter yoga began in Mumbai, India, in 1995 when a doctor named Madan Kataria developed the practice to reduce the stress of running his medical practice, based on research studies touting the benefits of laughter. One that stood out said your brain can’t tell the difference between real or fake laughter. #LaughterYoga #YogaDuRire https://lnkd.in/ebYExb87

One of my favourite breathing exercises used in laughter yoga is the flower offering exercise. We pretend to pick a flower, then whilst we inhale, we imagine that we smell its scent, then on an a long exhale we offer it to someone. In laughter yoga, there is a lot of pretending, in a playful way, without any pressure of result. We pretend that we laugh, we pretend that we exercise (and we do exercise, but in a joyful, less serious way). We pretend that we sing or dance (even if we have zero skills in dancing or singing) and ultimately, we pretend that we are children again. That is why I chose this picture to illustrate the laughter yoga events that I am organising in collaboration with the community Centre Le Chemin. Discover laughter yoga and experience its multiple benefits by joining me on this coming Saturday, 28/10, 10:30 at the community Centre Le Chemin, in Woluwe St. Lambert. For organisation reasons, registration is needed. Drop a mail at gabrieladspencer@gmail.com or send me a direct message. ( It's never too early to plan for wellbeing activity, especially if it involves laughter) Bring a friend, your yoga mat, comfy clothes a bottle of water and lots of curiosity. https://lnkd.in/eK8YFFX4 #laughteryoga #laughteristhebestmedicine #brusselslaughs #yogadurire #wellbeing

At the end of yoga the last two Monday nights I led a 5 minute relaxation technique adapted from Antonio Sausys. It is outlined in his book Yoga for Grief Relief. I recorded it so that you can use it through the holiday season - or anytime you need to return to yourself. It is truly only 5 minutes long. You deserve it. You can also try it on your own, without audio, using the printable PDF found on the blog! The idea is that you do NOT need to be guided. You can do this Just 5 minutes! #yogatherapy #selfcare #relaxation #mindfulness #5_minutes

Did you know that I write a monthly e-newsletter for my business Abundant Laughter which includes stories about how laughter positively impacts my life, where I've been presenting in the community and education about the health benefits of laughter? To subscribe to my newsletter, please go to https://lnkd.in/gzQi6uKn Here's a preview of an article that went out in the July newsletter which was released today: Laughter is a mild aerobic exercise Laughter Yoga sessions incorporate gentle movement, hand clapping, vocal chants and deep breathing exercises from yoga. All of these components are sustained for 15-30 minutes to improve blood flow around the body ensuring the heart and lungs get a moderate workout. The supply of oxygen to the brain increases which brings alertness to the mind. The laughter exercises involve playfulness and imagination which can stimulate happy memories from childhood days and bring us into the present moment, temporarily forgetting stress and pain. The physical movements activate both the left and right sides of the brain and require participants to concentrate on their coordination. Sessions can be conducted seated in chairs or with a combination of movement around the space, allowing accessibility for all abilities. The hand clapping rhythm of the Cha Cha Cha stimulates acupressure points in the hands and alerts the brain to get ready for action. The addition of the chant Ho, Ho, Ha, Ha, Ha mimics the sounds produced when we laugh. Since our brain cannot determine the difference between a voluntary laugh and a genuine laugh, it releases the happy hormones and we start to feel better. In addition to providing a mild aerobic workout, Laughter Yoga sessions improve health and wellbeing by providing social interaction. Leaders encourage the audience to engage in eye contact with each other while acting out the laughter activities. This bonds the group members in a joyful way, quickly reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness. Laughter Yoga is often described as the most fun you can have while exercising! #LaughterYoga #MentalHealth #Exercise #Social #Yoga #Breathing #AbundantLaughter

Do you have a cat?🐈❤️😊 If you are lucky to have one or several cats at home I highly recommend that you try Yoga practice in the presence of your cat(s). Here is why: They are a great help to reduce stress: when interacting with cats stress levels are lowered and feelings of relaxation increase. Thus the presence of cats adds an calming element to your yoga practice. Cats enhance your mood: While petting and playing with cats oxytocin is released, a hormone associated with happiness and bonding. This elevates your mood and adds to the positive experience with Yoga. So when your cat wants to be petted while you practice Yoga give in to this "demand" - you benefit greatly from it. Cats show you mindfulness and presence: It is the nature of cats, and all other animals, to be very present in the moment. You can learn from them while practicing yoga how to stay mindful and focused, enhancing the meditative aspects of yoga. Cat Yoga has physical Benefits: when cats are around you are more relaxed and this improves your flexibility, strength and mobility. So next time you practice Yoga at home invite you cat(s) to join. It will make your yoga practice more enjoyable and enriching, both physically and emotionally. To learn more about Yoga and its benefits follow me. 🐈⬛❤️😊 Share this Information with friends🐈💚🕉 More about me and my online classes: https://lnkd.in/eR9F8eqh #yoga #hathayoga #yogalover #yogacommunity #cats #catlover #stressmanagement #healing #awareness

Do you feel that yoga could boost your productivity and well being but you’re not sure where to start? Here are some simple poses to seamlessly integrate yoga into your busy schedule: 1. Morning Rituals: Start your day with a few rounds of Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) to awaken your body and energize your mind. Follow it up with a grounding pose like Tadasana (Mountain Pose) to center yourself for the day ahead. 2. Midday Breaks: Take short breaks throughout the day to practice seated stretches like Seated Forward Fold (Paschimottanasana) or Desk Shoulder Stretch to release tension and improve circulation. 3. Lunchtime Wellness: Dedicate part of your lunch break to a quick yoga practice. Try Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II) to strengthen your legs and core, or Chair Pose (Utkatasana) to fire up your lower body and improve posture. 4. Evening Relaxation: Wind down in the evening with calming poses like Child's Pose (Balasana) to release tension in your back and hips, or Legs-Up-the-Wall Pose (Viparita Karani) to promote relaxation and ease stress. 5. Mindful Movement:Infuse mindfulness into your daily activities by practicing conscious breathing and body awareness. Whether you're standing, walking, or sitting at your desk, take moments to focus on your breath and tune into the sensations in your body. Elevate your daily rituals with the transformative power of yoga. #Yoga #Wellness #Mindfulness #Productivity
