iCANX Talks Vol 187 Speaker: Inkyu Park, Ph.D. (KAIST, Korea) Date: 24 May 2024 Talk: Smart Environmental Monitoring by Low-Power / Self-Powered Gas Sensors and Artificial Intelligence Abstract With the advent of the 4th industrial revolution, there has been a significant rise in the use of Internet of Things (IoT) and advanced sensors in several sectors, including but not limited to smart factories, healthcare, environment, and entertainment. However, the deployment of an increasing number of sensors in IoT systems has made it crucially important but challenging to reduce their form factors and power consumption. Consequently, there is a growing need for sensors that are miniaturized, low-power, or self-powered. In particular, when it comes to environmental IoT, it is essential to decrease power consumption... More information at https://lnkd.in/e7c-GEKy

Internet of Things (IoT) describes a network of smart devices capable of capturing, preprocessing, and sharing data. Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is an umbrella term that describes the narrowed list of IoT devices—applicable in manufacturing only (below we attach a picture). IoT solutions for manufacturing help control shop floor operations in real time, issue commands, analyze collected data, predict machine downtime, and more. The most popular IIoT devices are as follows 👇 https://lnkd.in/e5Z5BP99

📃Scientific paper: Ambient IoT: A missing link in 3GPP IoT Devices Landscape Abstract: Ambient internet of things (IoT) is the network of devices which harvest energy from ambient sources for powering their communication. After decades of research on operation of these devices, Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has started discussing energy harvesting technology in cellular networks to support massive deployment of IoT devices at low operational cost. This article provides a timely update on 3GPP studies on ambient energy harvesting devices including device types, use cases, key requirements, and related design challenges. Supported by link budget analysis for backscattering energy harvesting devices, which are a key component of this study, we provide insight on system design and show how this technology will require a new system design approach as compared to New Radio (NR) system design in 5G.
