At the beginning of 2024, as our team arrived at our Annual All-Employee Meeting, the stories began flowing. You see, many members of our remote team had never met in person before, so there was A LOT to catch up on. In no time at all, we were laughing and smiling over newly discovered common ground. 🏌️Tales of amazing golf rounds 🍸Passion for good wine and cocktails 📘Bingeable books and movies And, most relevant to this story... recaps of extravagant adventures across the world.🌍🛫 You wouldn’t believe some of the amazing places members of our small team have been - Madagascar, Kenya, Japan, India, and across Europe and North America. You also wouldn’t believe some of the TOUGH situations our team members found themselves in on those trips and successfully navigated using their instincts, intelligence, teamwork, and drive.🧠💪 These conversations highlighted a very special commonality among us - it was grit. Later in the week, it was time to go through the exercise of redefining our company values. It has been many years since our values were created, and our team has changed and grown a lot since then. As we began brainstorming the values that were most important to us, a pattern began to form. Four categories quickly emerged, and the contents of them added up to—you guessed it—G.R.I.T. We wrote out our new core values (yes, with a spelling mistake - did you catch it?), and each signed the document.✍️ Today, we infuse these core values into everything we do in order to give our clients the BEST service and experience possible. To celebrate, here are the top three things I've (re)learned while working in the beauty-verse: 1️⃣ Community is everything: No surprise here! Our international community of e.l.f.z are beauty obsessed and always tell it like it is. Diving into community insights show the true power of listening, and it's so apparent why e.l.f. is an industry leader: because our ears are to the ground for our consumer's every beauty desire. Our BFe.l.F.s are the heartbeat of our brand, and their voices drive us to be the bold disruptors we know we are! With hundreds of thousands of mentions daily from posts, comments, tags, and chats. They love us, and the feeling is mutual. 2️⃣ There’s no speed like e.l.f. speed: The beauty world moves fast, and so do we. Adaptability and agility are what I've witnessed here, helping e.l.f. turn insights into action almost in real-time. Being open to feedback and transforming our community's wish lists into product on shelf is like having a superpower. 3️⃣ Kind hearts win: With the jitters of starting a new job, I was reminded by everyone I met in onboarding of our organization's true values. In my 1:1 huddles, I asked team members for words of advice. I was empowered with "don't be afraid to make mistakes, over communication is better than no communication, bring every idea to the table, and trust yourself." These sentiments were reminders that even at a global company like e.l.f. there is still space at the table for me to try, discover, and ask for help. You gotta just go for it. Don’t think about what comes after or what came before. You just gotta bend your knees, take a deep breath, and jump. 🙌🏻 I realised this month It’s been one year since I made that leap and started Wils & Co Media. This video barely scratches the surface of the past year, but I couldn’t be more grateful, and I couldn’t be more proud. Thank you to the amazing people, brands, businesses and clients I’ve worked with. Here’s what I’ve learned in the past 12 months. I can’t wait to do it all again. 🔸Your biggest mistake is the move you don’t make. 🔸Growth doesn’t come from your comfort zone. 🔸There are so many opportunities out there, and ones you don’t even know about yet. 🔸You’ll work HARDER than you’ve ever worked. But the rewards will also be BIGGER. 🔸Some of your clients will become your friends. 🔸Accounting and taxes aren’t as scary as you think. 🔸The best learning resources are the people already in your life. 🔸You will get ghosted, even when you’re so far into the onboarding process it seems impossible. 🔸Always reply. Even if you can’t help. ALWAYS reply. 🔸The will be lots of frustrating days, there will also be lots of amazing days. 🔸There is power in freedom. 🔸You’ll probably never stop working. But remember, you’re working for YOU. Read that again. 🔸There’s lessons to be learned from failure. 🔸Diversification is KEY. 🔸Lean on the ones you love. You can’t do it without them. 🔸People will disappoint you, but people will also amaze you.

🌷While March 1st, also known as World Compliment Day, might have breezed by in a whirlwind of positive vibes and heartfelt words, it's vital to keep that energy flowing all year round. At Appical, we celebrated this occasion by setting up a station where our employees could sprinkle a little joy among each other through compliments, whether anonymously or not. Small Wins, Big Results! In our busy office, I had a big problem keeping our company energy positive as we got more people. It was essential to make sure every worker felt special and listened to. At first, our team was like a small family, all working together because we liked the same things and wanted the same goals. But as we grew more prominent, I worried we might lose how close we were. So, I wanted to make everyone on the team feel powerful. As we became more successful, I started to fear that we might drift apart. But then I decided to make sure everyone on the team felt strong and important. We started by allowing everyone to easily express their ideas, worries, and new thoughts. That helped us talk better and ensured everyone felt like they were part of the team. We also started a program to celebrate when people did good things, no matter how big or small. Saying thank you and cheering each other on helped us feel good and want to do even better. Over time, our office changed. It became more than just a place to work; it became a team where everyone felt important and needed to succeed. We trusted each other more and helped each other out, so we became even closer. Because we worked hard, we didn't just keep our unique company spirit alive; we made it even better. As a People Leader, I still ensure these things are essential to our company, where everyone loves what they do and works together to win. Share your thoughts in the comments!
