Fellow Engager Becky Traynor participated in an Allinforma Rainbow event at the 240 Blackfriars Office in London, welcoming 15 students aged 12-15 from Parker Academy Daventry. These students are part of the school's LGBTQIA+ network (described as "a mini Rainbow Network of their own").
Thank you, Becky, for representing Engage and supporting the event as we wrap up Pride month! 🌈

📣 CALLING DRINKS BRANDS! 📣
(And all brands really, but drinks is where I'm at, so...)
Literally everyone, no matter the size of a business, advertises. Maybe not through an agency, but there will be marketers in your team. And! Some of them will be queer! Also also also - however you're communicating your brand, you will be speaking to queer people. We are in your audience. Fact.
So. In case you've not come across it - I'd love to introduce Outvertising!
Outvertising is a brilliant organisation that works to make the UK ad and marketing industries completely inclusive for LGBTQ+ people. Outvertising Live is coming up, but the team does super cool stuff all year round, too. Check out the LinkedIn page and website.
So what? I'd really recommend encouraging people in your business to come along to Outvertising Live next month. The free half-day conference is for folks in the queer community, allies, and basically anyone who wants to see a better advertising and marketing industry. Not just when it comes to representation, but also through workplace policies, and in loads of other ways as well.
AND! Do consider supporting the event! The sponsor deck is below, and packages start from £2k.
I really, REALLY believe that advertising is powerful. It doesn't just reflect society, it can effect change too. Those of us who shape the messages that head out in the world have a responsibility to take this seriously and use it for good. Learning how to do that, from genuinely incredible creatives and thought leaders - and enabling others to do so - is an important part of seeing progress happen.
SO GET INVOLVED!
That's all :)
(I'm not involved with Outvertising in any way, but I did go to Outvertising Live last year and I'm heading to it again next month. It's amazing!)

Outvertising Live 2023 is on the horizon and we need your support.
Our annual gathering of LGBTQIA+ people and allies from around adland takes place on Wednesday 22nd November, and in order to keep it free and accessible to all, we're on the hunt for some partners.
There are several different partnership packages available, so if you want to demonstrate your active allyship with the LGBTQIA+ community in our industry, have a flick through the deck and drop us a line.

We're often asked how people can celebrate their LGBTQIA+ children, friends, students, and young people in their lives.
And we love sharing the knowledge with you all!
It's important to remember that everyone has different needs, and everyone wants something different. Here are six tips from us to help get you started!

Today is Wear It Purple Day! The goal of Wear It Purple is to encourage a culture of acceptance and tolerance, while enhancing awareness of issues relevant to the LGBTQIA+ community.
If you want to learn further about how you can be an ally minus 18 has some great resources. A great place to start is to get familiar with the words and definitions that are used in the LGBTQIA+ community. See the below link to learn more.

Awareness is recognizing that some kids play differently.
Acceptance is being flexible when someone doesn’t play the same way as you.
INCLUSION is inviting them to play regardless.
Parks are hard. Maybe more for me, but I see it in her eyes too.
This month is the perfect opportunity to have an age appropriate conversation about inclusion with your kids.
When kids are aware they understand how to accept and most importantly INCLUDE.

I definitely do not position myself as an expert or someone to speak on behalf of LGBTQIA+ youth. But I do believe in love, kindness and the freedom to honor yourself in all spaces.
I’ve put together some resources for educators to learn more about this community’s history, their experience, and even lesson plans to support your classroom discussions.

Inclusion is the intentional practice of including people in the workplace! Allies encourage greater collaboration, inspire empathy to ensure support extends beyond the #LGBTIQA+ community, and that’s one of the reasons you want to celebrate your LGBTIQA+ colleagues. #diversityandinclusion

“Home is not always a safe space for young people, and schools are well positioned to provide a kind of safe haven, where young people can be included, valued and have some sense of equity in that space.”
