Throwback to when Luke Hallewell was a grad!
"I made friends for life!"
As part of our Grad Alumni network, Luke reflects on the incredible journey he’s had at Informa.
As a grad, the opportunities to network and try different roles across the business broadened his horizons, helping him to step outside of his comfort zone and pushing him to achieve more than he ever imagined.

But I applied for the Informa graduate scheme about four years ago now. It pushed me a lot and got me out of my comfort zone. The graduate scheme was a great chance to network as well, with people right at the top of the business. Nobody was too senior. I think I'm fortunate to have had at least 5 or 6 wonderful mentors throughout my time as well. You're put into unique or unusual situations that are designed to make you learn and grow on the spot. I think it's absolutely unique. I think the sheer variety of the different placements and also being able to research yourself and take initiative to choose those placements and create a career path for yourself. Informa us really great at, you know, ensuring that trust is a partnership. Informa is a global company, has offices all around the world, opportunities all around the world, and events in many if not most continents. LEAP seeks to gather hundreds of CEOs, investors, tech entrepreneurs and exhibitors from around the world, bringing them into one place into Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to meet, discuss, make meaningful connections and share knowledge with all things tech, whether that's health tech, the fourth industrial revolution, the metaverse, or investment opportunities across the whole sector. We had 100,000 visitors, over 500 speakers, 300 investors. Hundreds more exhibitors and startups. It was really buzzing in a very exciting place to be. And I've made some very good friends in the Saudi Arabian office who I think are friends for life. It couldn't have gone any better. My first real passion was music. I learned to play the trumpet at nine years old. I then taught myself the piano, the bass and the guitar in my early teens. But then I also played in brass bands, in orchestras, which included four. Amateur dramatic shows as well. And actually that was my first real job, I suppose, you know, being paid a small amount to drive to a village, perform in the orchestra for a stage production of, let's say, Carousel or Singing in the Rain and getting a little paycheck and for a job well done. I was the MC at the Informa Awards back in 2021 when it was hybrid, half virtual, half in reality. I sat by a big grand piano with a microphone and just presented away. It's mainly my voice, I think. And then I also emceed the Informa Dubai Winter party here about four weeks ago.

It’s January 2007 🗓️
I was a young recruiter back then, running around the Middle East and Africa, hiring dozens and dozens of field engineers. The pressure was intense!
Looking back now, I realize I didn’t always take the time to be present, intentional and enjoy the incredible and fun people I worked with. It’s always like that, isn’t it? 𝘏𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘪𝘴 20/20.
That got me thinking—why wait for the future to appreciate 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆? I don’t want to look back years from now and wish I had made the most of this moment. So, I’m starting 𝚗̲𝚘̲𝚠̲: choosing to be grateful for even the challenging parts of today’s work.
If this sounds familiar to you too, take a second with this affirmation today:
𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚 𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙨 𝙢𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙙, 𝙛𝙤𝙘𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙙, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙤𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙮 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠
As we navigate our busy, often overwhelming days, I’m reminding myself to stay present, appreciate the journey, and give thanks for all the lessons along the way.
What’s one thing you’re grateful for in your work today? Let’s take a moment to reflect together and celebrate the small wins.
