It was a pleasure to talk to Tara LaFon Gooch, MBA, CVP about my journey to being confident enough to live my best life as a digital marketing coach and small business advocate. When you identify your true passion and purpose, lean into it. Be confident and have faith in yourself and your expertise. When it comes to digital marketing and "putting yourself" out there, it can feel vulnerable and scary. People might judge you. People might write negative comments or challenge your expertise. People might say mean things about you. The digital world is exactly like the real world....there will always be those that you don't resonate with. Not everyone has to be in your tribe. You don't WANT everyone in your tribe! You want YOUR people in your tribe. The key is to identify your target audience and connect with THEM. In our relentless digital pursuit, we are falling behind in etiquette, decorum, and appropriate professionalism. Political rhetoric and divisive comment sections - paired with a content onslaught including sports and pop culture fanatics - brings knee-jerk replies, retorts and attacks without critical thinking. Essentially, we are listening to respond instead of listening to understand. Perhaps the answer lies in family values or the way we're raised, but break-neck schedules and broken families with different rules in each home, have us ignoring kindness, respect and the way we present our brand in my opinion. If there's any good news to this, it's that young people who have been taught to use their social channels to broadcast a professional and talented brand while avoiding the troublesome content that follows kids around, are finding incredible opportunities in the roles, careers and pursuits they strive to attain.
