Let's talk about signs of potential #toxicity and low #ethics at #work environments. Working on weekends should never be on a job-post like this and not be an expectation. If that's required there are words for it: oncall, 24/7 rotation, you name it. And this is paid time to be precise. Implying that if you don't spend your weekends working or studying "cyber" stuff you simply "don't have it", it's plain BS and a sign of a toxic workplace to come. And the amount of toxicity in the discussion below is staggering. Did I ever work on evenings, nights, weekends "unpaid" or I still do? Of course, a lot, almost all of us in our field did and/or still do. But that's when we feel like doing it, because our passion and desire to dig deeper takes you there, when you feel like that's the way you want to invest your free time, when YOU deem so right, not because your boss expects you to do it. Life is one and short. Spend your free time disconnecting, recharging the batteries, spending quality time with family, friends and cultivating your hobbies. Learning new things outside of "cyber" that, I can assure you, will contaminate the way you reason on "cyber" too. This can positively influence your performance and future career much more than one thinks. For junior folks (I hope the more experienced have figured this out): there is plenty of opportunities in #infosec and #threatintel, avoid the Jasons or the J.J.'s if you want to avoid #burnout along the way. For hiring manager: don't be a Jason or a J.J. or any of their "the best" club, whatever that means. Don't be part of the problem. And please don't take my word for it, read also what smarter and wiser people than me, Jason and J.J. combined have to share about the subject, read Ethan Evans: "Choose companies and bosses wisely. Some leaders push you into the trap, some leaders try to keep you out of it. Seek those that keep you out." https://lnkd.in/erBPqSCs
🚨 New Threat Intel Role 🚨 I’m looking for a threat intel researcher to join my team... Does this sound like you? - You spend your free time on leak sites, hacking forums, and the deepest areas of the dark web - You jump into Shodan when a new vulnerability drops to see the number of impacted systems - You believe that the right information can inform the best action to mitigate risk But, above everything else, you have a burning desire to turn information into actionable intelligence to protect tens of thousands of organizations at scale. If that sounds like you, let’s chat. Apply using this link: https://lnkd.in/eAEyiepw I would appreciate it if you reshare this post to help build awareness of this awesome opportunity!

DVA is not associated with this job posting Senior Security Engineer, Security Research Germany https://lnkd.in/g7SQKs29 About the job There's no such thing as a "safe system" - only safer systems. Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. As a Security Engineer, you help protect network boundaries, keep computer systems and network devices hardened against attacks and provide security services to protect highly sensitive data like passwords and customer information. Security Engineers work directly with network equipment and actively monitor our systems for attacks and intrusions. You also work with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities. You use your industry experience to own and drive the resolution of complex security incidents, policy questions and technical security issues. We build tooling to scale security research, and create new methodologies for discovering high impact security vulnerabilities. We also use in-house exploit development to provide relevant and actionable guidance for long-term defenses and mitigations, and engage in non-technical work such as driving improvements to industry security processes and best practices. Responsibilities Conduct vulnerability research and exploit development. Create tools and infrastructure that enables the team to scale up our research efforts. Engage the wider defensive community by publishing results. Work with other security engineers on the analysis of, and response to vulnerabilities reported by other parties. #business #entrepreneurship #leadership #strategy #innovation #growth #success #management #marketing #sales #finance #productivity #networking #professionaldevelopment #career #teamwork #startup #smallbusiness #digitalmarketing #branding #customerexperience #technology #economy #investing #consulting #entrepreneurmindset #leadershipdevelopment #businessowner #worklifebalance #corporateculture

Hiring in security is hard! More so, when you are looking for specific skillsets - be it appsec, infrasec, threat intelligence, etc. Have you considered hiring a team of security generalists instead? It might work, might not work. Really depends on the organization as well as its priorities. But, would you rather lose that headcount just because you are not able to find a rockstar appsec engineer or get creative by hiring someone who can compliment the skills on the team and take the team along? Ive learnt this the hard way i.e. it is more important to bring the team along with me than be the 10x engineer myself. Do you have any tips for hiring in security? More on this in the latest episode. Links in comments! #appsec #security #softwaresecurity #hiring #cybersecurity
