Group Head of Human Resources (CHRO) - Infosys

Being right is good, doing right is better Back in March 2020, in the midst of uncertainty and rising concerns about a contagious virus, the true test of trust and purpose came to the forefront at Infosys. As an employer committed to amplifying human potential to create the next opportunity for people, businesses and community, our duty suddenly went beyond career development to safeguarding the lives of Infoscions who had entrusted us with their well-being. At the time, I had the additional responsibility as the Head of the Mysore Development Center, where all our campus hires are housed and trained. With limited information and rumors circulating, we faced the daunting task of ensuring the safety of 10,000 trainees on campus. Recognizing the weight of the responsibility on our shoulders, we needed to act swiftly and decisively. However, with no template of how to get this done, we turned to our instinct and values to guide us. Starting March 15, we initiated a massive evacuation plan to transport our trainees to safety. The coordinated effort involved state transport buses, our own fleet of private buses, and cooperation with Indian Railways to hasten the speed of the evacuation. Even as the government announced a lockdown on March 24, we accelerated our efforts, ensuring that the safety and well-being of our trainees remained the top priority. Beyond logistical challenges, we also had to handle the concerns of so many worried parents back home. We provided 24/7 support to trainees and their families, offering counseling services to alleviate anxieties caused by the uncertainty. Some trainees who were unable to return home immediately, were accommodated at the campus and provided with the necessary care and support until they could safely reunite with their families. Reflecting back on this moment, I am filled with immense satisfaction knowing that we upheld our values and fulfilled our duty to those who put their lives in our hands.
