✨EU project GATEPOST achieves breakthrough in graphene photonic chip development ✨ A consortium funded by the EU's Graphene Flagship program has successfully produced the first prototype of a graphene photonic integrated circuit. This development, led by IHP GmbH, has the potential to revolutionize computer technology and IT security. The GATEPOST project, which began in October 2021, is developing a novel chip design that integrates graphene and other 2D materials onto silicon nitride using standard CMOS processes. This initial prototype chip features a nine-layer design, with each layer serving a specific function. While this first iteration is a simplified version, it represents a significant milestone for the GATEPOST project. The team is on track to deliver a more complete chip by the project's conclusion in 2024. Their research has already been presented at the Optical Fiber Communications Conference and Exhibition 2024. 💡 We are part of the project Neuropuls 💡 Main task for Argotech: Development of packaging solutions for FPGA driving. The architecture of the photonic chip will be analysed to allow the FPGA driving circuit to be optimally connected to the photonic chip for a successful demonstration. A suitable packaging strategy will be adopted to maximise the performance and impact of the final demonstrator circuit.

📢📢New open access paper 📃 regarding NANO-EH technologies just published! Our colleagues Eleonora Pavoni, Emiliano Laudadio, C. H. Joseph, Davide Mencarelli, Luca Pierantoni, Gian Marco Zampa, Paola Russo from the Università Politecnica delle Marche and Mircea Dragoman, Martino Aldrigo from the IMT-Bucharest, together with other recognized researchers, sign this paper. In this work, the team present a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) diode, based on quantum tunnelling phenomena. Its model is based on a multilevel modelling approach consisting of atomistic and continuum simulations, fully validated by extensive measurements. The present study is centred around a real geometry and material stack for the MIM device, concentrating only on dielectric hafnia and providing, for the first time, a full modelling-simulation-experimental verification based on a rigorous description of quantum tunnelling phenomena. These outcomes represent the first study of such nanoscale devices investigated by means of a rigorous atomistic-to-continuum approach, providing invaluable information in order to improve fabrication and correctly assess the macroscale performance of nanoelectronics systems📟. Recently, Professor Shi Zhiwen's team at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, in collaboration with partners, published a research paper titled "Graphene nanoribbons grown in hBN stacks for high-performance electronics" in Nature. This research developed a novel method for growing graphene nanoribbons, achieving the embedded growth of high-quality graphene nanoribbons within hexagonal boron nitride layers, forming an "in situ encapsulated" graphene nanoribbon structure. The study also demonstrated that the grown graphene nanoribbons could be used to construct high-performance field-effect transistor devices. In research published today (Sept. 4) in Light: Science & Applications, the team from The Australian National University and their collaborators at Northwestern Polytechnical University outline a method for growing high quality multi-quantum well nanowires made from semiconductor materials indium gallium arsenide and indium phosphide. #semiconductor #manufacturing #research #technology
