These places facilitate demonstration programs, connect companies to trained workers, and provide access to real estate for manufacturing. European climate tech founders and investors have initiated The Climate Brick, a community-driven initiative aimed at tackling the climate crisis through technology. This collaboration includes prominent names like EQT Ventures, Contrarian Ventures, HSBC, 2150, Norrsken, Einride, Northvolt, Marvel Fusion and Genomines with a focus on fast-tracking climate technologies to scale. The initiative emphasizes collaboration among stakeholders including investors, policymakers, and large companies to support the growth and scaling of climate tech ventures in Europe. “The climate bricks are not only attracting seasoned climatetech investors but also generalist investors who might be super new to this world. On February 20th, 2024, the U.S. Department of Commerce allocated fresh funding to blue technology accelerators, aiming to boost innovation in ocean sensing and data. NOAA's Ocean-based Climate Resilience Accelerator program will financially support early to mid-stage blue tech businesses, emphasizing the development of new products, particularly those related to climate-relevant ocean data. NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad highlighted the program's significance in addressing the visible impacts of climate change across the United States. The initiative fosters collaboration between the government, private sector, academia, tribes, and stakeholders to swiftly generate innovative ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes technologies, meeting the urgent need for nationwide resilience. The initial phase of funding, though modest, provides $250,000 in development funds to each of the 16 accelerators, totaling $3.9 million, offering meaningful support to emerging organizations. Climate tech is on the rise in New York City, with $3.5 billion in venture capital investment in the last two years. Private sector investors and government incentives are driving this growth. However, some are concerned that this trend may follow the same path as the investment before the climate tech crash in the early 2010s. Additionally, the upcoming 2024 elections could bring in politicians who may reverse climate regulations and subsidies. Despite these concerns, the growth of 159 climate tech startups in NYC since 2021 and the increasing impact of climate disasters on people's daily lives suggest that the climate industry is here to stay.
