Ingeborg Initiatives is proud to support the formation of the Doula Alliance of Arkansas. As Arkansas faces the highest maternal mortality rate in the nation, the Alliance creates a vital partnership between doulas and physicians, providing an added layer of support for moms during pregnancy and the challenging postpartum period. https://lnkd.in/gBHeRdPU

Is there any talk about sending Arkansas clinicians to other states or countries to learn from places that are having successful healthcare outcomes? Cuba has great outcomes on a shoestring budget and they have a robust exchange program. Not that they are doing as well as the Nordic countries. But they are able to do well with limited funds. Has anybody considered recruiting travel CPMs to come to our depressed rural areas and provide prenatal and postnatal care and services? Especially since almost have of the maternal deaths happen after birth. Midwives are great at postnatal care. OBs always say they don’t have time for postnatal. Fundamentally we can talk policy change till we’re blue in the face, but until we have universal health care and do away with pay per service health care, we will not be able to truly implement patient centered care. We need to stop navel gazing and learn from other countries.

I had two different doulas in Northwest Arkansas during the births of my two children; the care and support provided by the doukas were priceless. I’m beyond excited to see the formation of this alliance!
