Hollywood movies rarely contain a subtext because Hollywood audiences rarely notice subtext.
Take the original TopGun. The gayest subtext in any mainstream blockbuster movie, and millions upon millions of chads love the movie and never notice, even after Tarantino made it a joke.
So Denis Villeneuve is a rare director who could succeed not just in weaving Paul-As-Psychopath into the subtext of DUNE, but also managing to get mainstream audiences to notice and THINK about such a complex theme.
Modern storytelling does the same thing over and over again. It presents "heroes" who are clearly psychopathic *cough* John Wick *cough* Batman *cough* and then provides a motivation to justify that psychopathy...IE makes them the "good guy".
But life doesn't contain good guys and bad guys.
So I'm genuinely impressed with the complexity of the discussion about heroes and leaders sparked by Dune. It bodes well for the recovery of our modern mythos. Of course a small minority missed the subtext completely...I'm guessing it's the same folks who missed "you can be my wingman"...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has explored many unorthodox heroes and unique conflicts — but none quite as unique as that in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. For it is Wakanda itself that is the protagonist in a conflict that’s not so much about superheroes — but supernations. It’s not a story about war (there is one, of course) but rather, a clash between two superpowers (in every sense of the word). And when battles between superheroes can shake the planet, what more battles between supernations?

Parallel Universe, Parallel Earth's, and Parallel Life's are now common in Disney-Marvel movies. I personally believe that emphasizing Parallel Universe in every movie is really annoying. It also indicates a lack of creativity from the director and author team.
