If you are interviewing for a principal data engineer, make sure to follow these tips. 1 : Give a quick introduction about yourself - when there is a new member on the call, reintroduce yourself. 2 : Pay attention to how you speak - don't be shy, speak loudly, clearly and SLOWLY! when you are nervous, you speak fast. Go slow! it's ok! 3 : Be specific and have authority - talk with ownership, if you have made great impact in your previous roles or projects, talk about it and go into details, be specific, be confident! and communicate your technical expertise in the simplest words! 4 : Go beyond the technical - a principal data engineer has to collaborate with multiple teams, prioritise projects, be on architecture calls, unblock issues for other engineers, breakdown roadmaps into JIRA epics, task, tickets, optimise solutions for cost, scale, security, work with deployments, debug critical errors and more... speak about these items if you have done them in your past roles. 5 : Be human - It's ok if you don't know everything, you cannot know everything, if you pretend and talk nonsense, you will get caught, don't be afraid to say "i don't know"! #dataengineering #data #dataengineer

I saw a funny meme about saying something about "Say something that would trigger a developer." And it got me thinking... What would you say to trigger a data analyst, data scientist, data engineer, or data architect? I'll start: "This dashboard uses the average of averages to find the overall average." #data #dataanalyst #datascience #dataengineer #dataarchitect

Data Management | Data Analytics | Data Visualization | Data Governance | Automation | Software Engineering
Hey hiring managers: Data is data. I don't care what you think you've got unique as far as systems and data collectors- I can help you design a database schema that makes more sense than anything an AI can come up with to find the secrets YOUR data is hiding. I keep seeing these job postings for financial, medical, climate, process engineering or sales data; but from the point of view of the large database or large language model, these are all the same problem- how to clean, tokenize, sort, relate and visualize your data. And that is a data problem, not a domain specific corner case. And it's a solution we've been working on since the 1990s. So give us older guys a chance. We might just surprise you. https://lnkd.in/gU2WhGpN

One of the pain-points I heard from data leaders last year was that it can be hard to justify hiring a data engineer. Hiring a data scientist or analyst is generally easier to sell to the business because their work is immediately tangible. Many data scientists and analysts are also great at building SQL and notebooks workflows that can take data from Data Lakes and process it into a usable format. So why even hire data engineers? This is a question so many companies have run into. The truth is, companies can get away without data engineers for a little bit. But here’s what often happens. 1)Tech-debt starts to build 2) Lots of pipelines and data workflows get set-up for one-off requests 3) No one ever thinks about data governance 4) Even small changes risk breaking multiple critical flows 5) No one wants to own any of the above This has happened time and time again. It eventually comes to a head once the CEO is tired of dealing with conflicting numbers, slow dashboards and the constant "we can't change that, or something might break" responses. If you're that CEO or a data leader who needs to have that conversation with the CEO, then let's talk!

Recruiting the best candidates in Databricks & Fabric 📊 33 recommendations 🎊 🎉 Making candidate experience my top priority since 2019🔥2 x Databricks Certified
Working in a consultancy as a data professional... would you do it? Most candidates I speak to seem to land in one of two camps Loving it or hating it. It's a great industry for a few reasons I think: - you finesse your client facing & stakeholder management skills - you get exposed to a lot of different tech - fast paced working environments - it can be very lucrative £££ But on the flipside: - some experience burnout - sense of unease if you're on the bench - not seeing products/solutions up and running after delivery Interested to hear people's thoughts! #data #engineering #architecture #databricks #fabric PS - make sure you vote today!!!!
