The latest McKinsey & Company article, "The energy transition: Where are we, really?" highlights a growing gap between climate commitments and the actual deployment of key #decarbonization technologies. While there’s progress in renewables, many projects are stalling due to weak business cases, cost challenges, and the lack of large-scale testing. Significant portions of planned projects haven’t reached the final investment decision (FID) stage, putting them at risk of cancellation. #Solar, #wind, and other vital technologies are not being rolled out fast enough to meet 2030 targets. Tripling global installed renewables capacity to 11,000 gigawatts by the end of the decade is the surest way to keep global climate action on track, according to the International Energy Agency’s latest net zero roadmap – a scenario where 2030 is the new 2050 and electricity is the “new oil.” The IEA’s 2023 Net Zero Roadmap sets out a global pathway to keep the 1.5 ̊C goal in reach, ratcheting up the task ahead since it was first mapped out in 2021, when the the IEA famously declared there could be no new coal, oil or gas projects to reach net zero by 2050. #renewables

Founder at NXTGEN Clean Energy Solutions |Sustainability Consulting + Solar + Wind + Battery Storage + Electric Vehicle Charging + Solar Light Poles | Helping businesses improve the bottom line and the environment
Global #carbondioxide emissions from energy sources rose at a slower rate in 2023, despite an increase in total energy demand growth. This is encouraging news, as it means that the expansion of solar PV, wind, and electric cars has been successful in minimizing the use of #fossilfuels. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), clean energy technologies have grown twice as fast as fossil fuels in the past five years. Without them, the global increase in CO2 emissions in the last five years would have tripled. These findings highlight the importance of prioritizing the expansion of clean energy technologies, as they provide the opportunity to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels in this decade. #cleanenergytransition #sustainability #nxtgen T.
