I love it when people send me copies of monstrous T&C. Call it curiosity or just being a bit nosey - I love examining what providers believe are the best ways to create loyal customer relationships. Recently, I reviewed a Subscriber Agreement sent by Lee Jackson, which led to some insights. Simplify: One clause promises to make the agreement "clearer." Yet, at 12 pages and nearly 6,000 words, it’s far from it. If no one can get through the first paragraph, clarity is clearly needed now, not later. Balance: The provider's rights are simple and concise, but the subscriber's terms are overly complex and ending with a vague threat of termination. Why not just say, "If you share your login, we can cancel your subscription"? What should you do? If you receive convoluted terms, speak up. And if you’re drafting them, rethink - do your terms inspire loyalty or confusion?
