The best option for communities is to help local entrepreneurs build mid-sized businesses and develop growth ventures that export from the area and import wealth. According to The Brookings Institution, in the Indianapolis Metro Area 915 Black businesses account for 3% of employer businesses. If Black companies accounted for 17.1% of employer firms (equivalent to the Black population), there would be 5,996 more Black businesses. Black businesses create an average of 14 jobs per firm, compared to 27 for all businesses. If the average number of employees per Black business reached parity, it would create approximately 11,162 new jobs. Black companies pay their employees an average of $30,795, compared to $51,013 for all businesses. If Black businesses paid this much, those employees would see an increase in total pay by approximately $264,915,232. #letsbuild Akilah Darden, MBA LEED AP🌟 Wayne Patrick Rose Scovel, AICP Christina Snorten Peggy McClelland Jason R.
