I developed an intense passion for mathematics early in life, and in middle school, I discovered math competitions through MATHCOUNTS and AMC 8. Despite my enthusiasm, I did not excel at these contests (at least not to the same extent I excelled in my math classes) because I never encountered these types of math problems in my school curriculum. When I became a math teacher and later a district math coordinator, I was determined to offer greater support for students who, like me, loved math and wanted to tackle really interesting problems. Tonight’s webinar by Art of Problem Solving is worth your time if you want to learn more. SPOILER ALERT: The benefits of competition math go well beyond awards and recognition.
