🚀 Buckle Up! Our Exclusive Interview with Luca Rossettini is Live 🚀 Meet the man who's been dreaming of space since he was 5. Luca Rossettini, CEO of D-Orbit, built his entire life with the goal of reaching the stars. From selling cosmetics and working as a fishmonger to fund his university dreams to joining NASA, his story is out of this world! Key Takeaways From Our Conversation: 1) Overcoming Obstacles: Selling cosmetics and fish? Luca's path is proof that any experience brings value if you know how to leverage it. 2) The Lost to Turning Point: When feeling lost at age 28, Luca found his way through a Fulbright scholarship and landed in Silicon Valley to learn how to turn space dreams into reality. 3) Bold moves inside NASA: Working on a small satellite project that everyone thought was doomed… and an accidental lunch with former Director of NASA's Ames Research Center - Pete Worden - a major proponent of the small satellite vision. 4) Design for The Future: Luca's strategy is to make sure that what developed today is also designed for tomorrow. Whatever they do is design thinking about the next steps. 5) Building the Science Fiction: Luca believes nerds and engineers make science fiction a reality! 6) Exceeding Expectations: Even a former NASA administrator admitted D-Orbit achieved what NASA spent a decade struggling to do. This interview is packed with inspiration and insight. Don't miss this inside look at the mind of a space industry visionary! Trap #3 when creating wildly important goals (WIGs): Leaders might choose to leave the Primary WIG vague because they want effort toward the outcome, even if it can't be measured. We run into this a lot, and leaders are the only ones who think this way. Teams never do. The rationale is that since there is no single metric for measuring success, we will just be glad that the WIG has everyone moving in the same direction. Be forewarned: This is a path to failure. Clear, measurable targets are the language of execution. Set a vague Primary WIG, and you will quickly learn how impossible it is to execute toward a concept, even when it's a concept you love. Remember, concepts stir the imagination, but targets drive performance. Trap #3: Creating a Primary WIG that is aspirational, but not measurable. Here is a beautiful example of The 4 Disciplines of Execution (4DX) thinking regarding establishing the Primary WIG: There were dozens of objectives behind the vague goal of "Lead the world in space exploration," but when President Kennedy set the target of "Put a man on the moon by the end of the decade...." he threw the "game on!" switch in the mind of every engineer at NASA. The target he chose didn't encompass everything NASA was trying to do in the space program, and it didn't have to. It was the one breakthrough result that made all the difference. Bestselling author Tim Ferriss once said, "Life punishes the vague wish, but rewards the specific ask."

𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙆𝙚𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙎𝙪𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 Research shows that most employees will thrive when their leaders facilitate better and bigger thinking. A study by NASA analysed the leadership style of Commander Scott Altman, who led a mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope. This mission was considered one of the most complex and high-stakes space assignments ever attempted, and the team faced numerous challenges throughout the project. Atman recognised that the mission's success depended on his team's ability to think expansively and solve problems in unconventional ways. To accomplish this, Altman used a unique approach that involved empowering his team members to take ownership of their roles and responsibilities. He encouraged them to think independently and take risks rather than relying on him to provide all the answers. Altman also created a safe and supportive environment where everyone felt comfortable speaking up. He encouraged his team members to share their thoughts and insights openly. Despite numerous setbacks and challenges, the Hubble Space Telescope repair mission was a resounding success, with the team achieving results that far exceeded expectations. This success was primarily due to Altman's ability to foster a culture of innovative and independent thinking among his team members. Thomas Zurbuchen, former Head of Science at NASA " My father was an evangelist pastor in a fundamentalist church. We hardly heard about science. I was taught all my youth that the whole universe was built in seven days. And then I went to one class. The teacher explained how science changed the trajectory of history. And I thought, "that's the job I want. I can do science, and through it, change the course of history!" (As narrated via the Netflix 2023 Documentary Unknown: Cosmic Time Machine) ********** As NASA’s Associate Administrator for the Science Mission Directorate, Dr. Thomas Zurbuchen, a Swiss-American Astrophysicist, was tasked with helping us answer some of humanity’s biggest questions: Where did we come from? Are we alone? How does the universe work? He presided over some of the NASA's biggest successes including launch of the James Webb Space Telescope. ********** Bio of Thomas Zurbuchen from the NASA website- https://lnkd.in/ds8zCwVC Netflix Documentary Link- https://lnkd.in/dRFc2zim #leadershipjourney #highperformers #executiveleadership #toptalent #mindsetiseverything

Have you read "The Innovators" by Walter Isaacson? 🤔 This fascinating book takes you through the history of the aerospace industry and technological revolution. You'll be captivated by learning about pioneers like Robert Goddard and Wernher von Braun, who faced immense challenges but never gave up on their dreams of space travel. Their perseverance advanced both science and defense for nations. The book also explores how innovation happens through collaboration. No single person achieves groundbreaking things alone - it takes a village. 🥰 Goddard collaborated with engineers, while von Braun worked with entire teams. Their spirit of partnership moved mountains. What breakthrough could you enable by bringing diverse minds together? Isaacson reminds us that progress stems from both curiosity and courage. 🙌 Read how these heroes constantly investigated uncharted frontiers despite obstacles and critics. Their relentless pursuit of knowledge expanded what's possible for aviation and rocketry. Are you working on any frontier-pushing ideas today? This well-researched book brings history to life in an inspiring and thought-provoking way. 🤩 I finished it feeling motivated to take more risks and think bigger. Some other insightful aerospace/defense history books worth checking out include "Sputnik Moment" by Roger Launius, which examines the space race in detail, and "The Wright Brothers" by David McCullough, a classic look at the pioneers of flight. I recommend browsing NASA's online archives for fascinating historical reports from early space missions. Have you encountered other insightful aerospace/defense history books or reports worth sharing? Let's continue learning from each other in the comments!

Creativity is the heartbeat of innovation ✨ In the 60’s NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration recognized this and decided to conduct their own study on creativity. After thorough analysis of 1,600 3-5 year olds, the study deemed that 98% of them operated at “creative genius,” level in their thinking. When the same children were followed and evaluated as adults, it was determined that only 2% maintained the same level of creativite genius 🤯 The point they were trying to prove was that creativity is mostly innate, but the way in which our world is structured has a significant diminishing effect on it 😏 In 2023, NASA ranked #1 in the space category for the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies 🚀 Here are 3️⃣ things they do to foster a culture of creativity and maintain their innovative status: 1️⃣ Open Innovation: NASA hosts regular community challenges and incentivized competitions to solve difficult problems. See: Centennial Challenges 💡 2️⃣ Diversity: They believe that creativity is supercharged through diversity. Because of this, a diverse and inclusive workplace is high priority❗️ 3️⃣ Student Challenges: NASA also hosts regular STEM challenges for students and educators, awarding scholarship funds and awareness bolstering virtual discussions on the topics at hand 🎙️ Moral or the story: Creativity is an investment that never fails. How do you engage your creative genius? 🤔 ⬇️ #seniorliving #workinggenius #creativegenius #nasa
