We love this mention in PBS NewsHour about the growth of apprenticeships and residencies especially for paraprofessionals - like the work that The Pathways Alliance does with the National Guideline Standards to help build a more diverse educator workforce especially in key shortage areas like special education. "Schools in states have been sort of forced to be as creative as possible . . . But there are some really creative solutions in terms of trying to provide supports to career changers or people who work in schools already. Some of these are called grow your own programs, where they might take special education paraprofessionals and provide them with the education that they need to be certified. And these are individuals who've already been working with students with disabilities and already have kind of a commitment to that school community." https://lnkd.in/gZUC6A4F

We’re proud to have helped 414 adult students in 2023, by assessing their neurodiverse needs. These have included, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, and ADHD. Supplying medical evidence of students' specific learning difficulties through our SASC-recognised diagnostic SpLD reports means that they will be able to receive the additional support they need. They will be better able to overcome barriers to their learning and successfully complete their apprenticeship or degree. Here’s the link if you’d like to hear more about our adult assessments at work, or HE/FE. https://lnkd.in/e4-c9YE9 #dyslexiaassessments #neurodiverseneeds #apprenticeships

This article was beyond interesting to me. Education is so important, so having challenging factors that get in the way of the teacher was very eye-opening to read about. The article stated that child hunger is a major issue that impacts most elementary school classrooms. Without food, the ability a child has to focus, participate, and learn is very slim. In order to combat this issue, many schools have meal plans for families or offer free breakfast or lunch. Along with this issue, many children also struggle with support from parents or guardians. It's important as educators that we make sure our students know they are supported by us. Being able to recognize issues students have is important, along with being able to do something about the challenges such as showing full support. #alpinecteinternships #mountainlandcte #Alpine School District CTE Internships

The appropriate age for a child to select a career goal can vary depending on the individual child's development and interests. - Elementary school (ages 6-10): At this age, children are just beginning to explore their interests and talents. Encourage them to try various activities and hobbies to discover what they enjoy. - Pre-teen years (ages 11-13): Children start to develop their skills and interests, and may begin to show inclinations towards certain careers. - Early teenage years (ages 14-16): Teenagers often start to explore career options and may choose elective courses or extracurricular activities that align with their interests. - Late teenage years (ages 17-19): At this stage, teens may start to solidify their career goals and explore post-secondary education or training options. Remember, every child develops at their own pace, and some may need more time to explore their options. Encourage your child to try new things, ask questions, and seek guidance from teachers, counselors, or mentors.

If we want to improve outcomes for school leavers, then we need to talk about how career development occurs in the early years. So much happens before they even hit high school - they learn about jobs and work, they form ideas about what could be possible, and they start to see how they could fit in. All this takes place when children are very young - when they hear their parents talk about work, for example, or when they play pretend in preschool. It also happens when they read stories about people at work, or colour in pictures of doctors and engineers. I've been reading through some of the latest CERIC resources including the fantastic new Exploring Possibilities Teaching Toolkit and I keep thinking back to this quote, because it really makes the case for early career education interventions. These interventions shouldn't ask children to choose a career path, but they can challenge the development of career-related stereotypes before they get the chance to solidify, and expand ideas about what could be possible. #CareerRelatedLearning

#westmidlandsjobs #rotherham #jobsearch #hiring Can you help us on our mission to ensure every child can live a Life Worth Living? I am currently recruiting Education Practitioners in Rotherham. Last year in the UK around 90,000 young people were persistently absent from education. This needs to change. We exist to ensure that children who are chronically disengaged from education are never left behind and can receive life changing support, guidance and mentoring to help them thrive. The role: Designing and delivering interventions based either in the students home, in a Community setting or within school that will support the academic engagement of students and working to meet a set of agreed provision targets. We are looking for compassionate and innovative Practitioners who are passionate about inclusion and can create a safe environment to inspire young people to see the value in education again. The key to what we do is focused upon creating a strong connection with our young people. We need people who don’t give up at the first hurdle; those who can think and deliver with inventive imagination. We need inspiring individuals who can broaden the horizons of our students and show them that life is worth living. Our network of practitioners come from many different backgrounds, Education, Academia, HealthCare, Uniformed Services, creative industries, sports clubs and many more. This diversity helps us make the perfect match to our students that gives each intervention the best chance of success. It is not always the professional experience that makes you a good match however. You may have an awareness of trauma or complex medical needs similar to those of our students for example. Whether it is a professional or personal link, one thing is certain, the work you do with our young people will change the course of their life. For those who are interested in the intersection between #k12education and #careerteched, it seems like The College Board may soon be adding courses that focus on specific careers along with assessments. How will these new courses match with both the construct established by Advanced Placement and existing opportunities in schools? It will be interesting to see what happens next—including the reception by actors, teachers, and policymakers. It could reveal tension—or calcification—of a new dynamic of the purpose of education. What do you think?
