Researchers from the University of Warwick have observed signs of the rainbow-like ‘glory lights’ effect on a distant planet outside our Solar System for the first time. Glory lights are colourful concentric rings of light that occur only under peculiar conditions. Why are #exoplanets with around 2 #Earth radii relatively rare? Simulations by scientists from MPIA, Universität Bern, and Université de Genève found migrating icy planets to play a key role in explaining this phenomenon. Definition: A sunspot is a dark, cooler area on the surface of the sun, caused by magnetic activity. These spots appear darker than their surroundings because they are relatively cooler, though still extremely hot. Sunspots are associated with solar phenomena like solar flares and can affect space weather, including the Earth's magnetic field. Example Sentences: Scientists observed an increase in sunspots, which could lead to more solar storms. The sunspot cycle lasts about 11 years, during which the number of sunspots rises and falls. Sunspots appear dark because they are cooler than the surrounding areas on the sun's surface. A large sunspot was detected this week, causing excitement among astronomers. The activity of sunspots can influence satellite communications and power grids on Earth. Solar flares often originate from regions near sunspots on the sun's surface. Sunspots can be seen through special telescopes designed to observe the sun safely. During a period of maximum sunspots, the sun's magnetic field is at its most active. The solar observatory is tracking the evolution of a massive sunspot group. Ancient Chinese astronomers were among the first to record observations of sunspots.
