For those of you who are catching up, here’s what we’ve delivered so far: 1.     Why we’ve developed the project as the starting point for the design and development of the city. 2.     Information on the types of companies we will be investing in; that is, green technologies or technologies that can provide carbon-neutral solutions for the city in combination with others. 3.     We will be hiring design and development teams as recommended by Committee members to create the radical designs required to turn space into a technology enhanced, lifestyle promoting city space. 4.     The Design of the Project. Now let’s start to get into how each piece will need to work together to achieve our Net-Zero objectives. Extensive studies conducted by respected institutions have shown that by building a technology integration system between these five categories, companies can move from theoretical cost reductions to measured results. By building decarbonization plans backed by legitimate technology pathways, the Net-Zero City Project aims to help corporations reduce their carbon footprint while capitalizing on revenue building opportunities. We plan to use equity investment to direct resources towards overall profit for each of our partners and the applicants who participate in our Project. The goal is to start at an NPV of zero when you’re finished developing the property and start making money from there. In a corporate city, taxes go towards the same infrastructure projects, but can also go towards dividend payments to those who invest in its success. Similarly, each of our partners will have the opportunity to gain from participating with us, either through partnerships, developing the Net-Zero City Project, or by acting on one of our committees. Over the last several weeks our team has been speaking with representatives of the Canadian Federal Government to gather support for the Net Zero City Project. We’ve determined the Project qualifies for significant support from the government, both financially and from a policy standpoint. In order to qualify for financing, we require: 1. A municipal partner to work with on the policy development and possible selection of location for the first development. 2. Built for tenants and those living in sectional title properties, it's the perfect solution where they can't install solar panels. It's a non-invasive solution that is easy to install, clean and can you can also take it with you when you vacate the premises! Built by Lisa Von Benecke, the founder of LC Dynamics, a clean-tech company that improves green energy access through tech products and data-driven systems. She was a national finalist in L'Oréal South Africa’s Brandstorm 2021 innovation competition. We take pride in highlighting great work within the Koolen Industries group, and the collaboration between DENS | Dutch Energy Solutions and Boomrooierij Weijtmans B.V., a tree-felling company in Brabant, is a perfect example! Weijtmans' recent investment in two brand-new DENS power hubs for their electric vehicles reflects their dedication to innovation and environmental responsibility. However, this partnership posed unique challenges, particularly regarding insurance for these mega-batteries. Unlike diesel generators, these mega-batteries emit no CO2, offering environmental benefits. Yet, insuring them presents complexities due to their transportation and potential leasing. With no existing statistics for such large batteries, an innovative solution was required... Congratulations to Massachusetts Institute of Technology startup AeroShield Materials on opening of a new facility to manufacture its breakthrough energy-efficient windows! To improve building efficiency, AeroShield has developed a window technology that promises to reduce heat loss by up to 65 percent, significantly reducing energy use and carbon emissions in buildings. The technology involves using a type of aerogel whose silica particles are both small and uniform in size, allowing light to pass directly through, so the aerogel becomes transparent. These transparent aerogel sheets are then inserted into the gap in double-pane windows, making them more than twice as insulating. “Our mission is to decarbonize the built environment,” says Elise Strobach SM ’17, PhD ’20, co-founder and CEO of AeroShield. “The availability of affordable, thermally insulating windows will help us achieve that goal while also reducing homeowner’s heating and cooling bills.” In spring 2024, the company announced the opening of its new pilot manufacturing facility in Waltham, Massachusetts, where the team will be producing, testing, and certifying their first full-size windows and patio doors for initial product launch. The 12,000 square foot facility will significantly expand the company’s capabilities, with cutting-edge aerogel R&D labs, manufacturing equipment, assembly lines, and testing equipment.
