What are pragmatic clinical trials? In general, pragmatic clinical trials are those clinical trials that can: Focus on efficacy or safety Streamline data collection and study design by collecting only those data truly necessary to answer the research question Use most straightforward endpoint feasible (i.e., overall survival) Decrease burden for trial participants, investigators, and sponsors Incorporate design elements more reflective of routine clinical practice Take advantage of functional efficiencies (e.g., fewer and/or broader and/or less-restrictive eligibility criteria, flexibilities in trial delivery and outcome measurement, etc.) Improve trial participation, increase diversity, facilitate rapid enrollment, reduce attrition Generate evidence representative of the general population affected by the clinical question For more details on pragmatic clinical trials, please see Project Pragmatica | FDA https://lnkd.in/g-hhRvZQ

5 years ago, Novo Nordisk, the manufacture of Ozempic, had a market capitalization of $60B. Today it is nearly 5x that amount at $330B. GLP-1 has also disrupted other companies such as Dexcom, a manufacturer of continuous glucose monitoring devices, who has seen its stock fall by nearly 50% from highs this year. The topic was even brought up on the The Howard Stern Show show where he asked Arnold Schwarzenegger what he thought about the Ozempic wave. Arnold’s response was essentially saying that it is the easy way out. He mentioned that real growth and progress (in people) happens during the struggle. “The human mind can only grow through resistance…Accept pain, misery, and discomfort - the more you can accept that, the more you can grow.” He continues on - “….Was this country built by people who slept in? People who are whimping out?… Don’t start to create a generation of whimps…Let’s not over baby the kids.. let’s go and teach kids to be tough, do sports, to study, to struggle and to go through painful moments sometimes..” Clearly, these drugs are controversial. The growth of GLP-1 drugs is disrupting several sectors of the industry. Where you do stand on Ozempic and other GLP-1 based drugs? Do you agree with Arnold’s assessment of the modern state of American society who are looking for the easy way out and avoiding the struggle? Let me know below. 👇 #glp1 #ozempic #nation #of #whimps #howardstren #arnold #terminator #growth #selfcare #weightloss

The Best Medicine is a Stronger PBS For over 75 years Australians have been receiving medicines through the PBS. The PBS is a vital part of Australia's healthcare system, but it needs to be updated to keep pace with the latest medical science. AstraZeneca believes that all Australians deserve timely access to medicines that can improve their lives. As a leading biopharmaceutical company, AstraZeneca is committed to working with the government and other stakeholders to ensure that the PBS can continue to provide Australians with access to the medicines they need. "AstraZeneca is committed to working with the Australian government to ensure Australians have reimbursed access to the medicines they need," said Ben McDonald, AstraZeneca Australia and New Zealand Country President. "We believe that the #StrongerPBS campaign is important to demonstrate how important reimbursed access is and how the PBS should now evolve to support access to new medicines." We encourage you to learn more about the #StrongerPBS campaign and join us in advocating for a stronger and more sustainable PBS for all Australians. President & CEO @ Genetic Alliance | Advocate | Citizen Scientist | Honorary Professorship, Honorary Doctorate
Invitation to Collaborate on Community Driven Innovation for Disease Communities (CDI) Leaders of Disease Communities and Cohorts, At Genetic Alliance, we are dedicated to fostering innovation that elevates all communities by providing resources at minimal to no cost. We understand that funding often focuses on specific diseases rather than supporting overarching platforms that benefit all. This can limit our collective potential to drive change and improve patient outcomes. I am reaching out to propose a collaboration that leverages the power of Community Driven Innovation (CDI), a methodology designed to streamline the process of understanding and addressing the unique challenges faced by your communities. CDI employs the latest advancements in UI/UX and social computational choice, among other techniques, to efficiently gather and prioritize community input. This approach has already garnered attention and use from NIH grantees and leading pharmaceutical companies. My son Ian Terry, a long-standing member of our community, has been instrumental in developing CDI through his company Aretetic Solutions, LLC. You can find more details about this methodology in the document here: https://lnkd.in/gSnUSBiH. So if you are interested, contact me at sterry@geneticalliance.org to express your interest and discuss specifics. Provide the name of the disease community you represent. Choose your desired level of engagement as outlined in the attached document—aiming high is encouraged! I will reply on a first-come, first-served basis to coordinate the next steps, including applying to funders you approve. We'll then patiently await approval to proceed with a tailored engagement for your community. This initiative represents an exciting opportunity to enhance patient-focused drug development and generate real-world evidence that directly benefits your communities. Thank you for considering this partnership. Together, we can achieve remarkable advancements that benefit all our communities!
