“What is impact?” It’s a common question facing our clients. There are many compounding factors that influence impact, and it takes careful work and building a layered understanding across many stakeholders to evaluate impact. But the first step in the MEL/evaluation journey is to get clarity and alignment to answer this deceptively tricky question, “What is impact?”. A large part of what the E4D team does is to help our clients and partners explore, discover and build their own understanding of their impact. This process of discovery begins with reframing from a definitive view on what is or isn’t an impact indicator (e.g. number of youth in jobs), to a broader consideration of what impact means within our partners’ context (e.g. improving youth’s employment, employability and resilience in labour markets). This exploration is centred on our partners’ specific objectives, resources, ambitions, etc. while also building a deep appreciation of what people need and which systems need to change. In our work, we love asking questions and hearing people’s stories. For instance, hearing people talk about a highlight of their career, a time they felt they had made a difference or what they’ve experienced matters most to create lasting change all help us to move closer to defining impact for them. These conversations locate impact as something personal, tangible and meaningful. To our clients and partners, impact is their North Star, often the reason why they are committed to their work. It’s unsurprising then that conversations about impact can be quite emotionally charged, high stakes and requiring real emotional vulnerability. Over the years, we’ve also explored what impact means for E4D. We’ve discovered the similarities and differences of what matters to each of us. A golden thread has emerged - we believe in the value we create by helping clients and partners better define their impact. It is by building “What is impact?” brick by brick that the levers for influencing impact or the evidence we need to prove and improve impact is revealed. We’re committed to the role we play with our clients and partners, which has shaped our team’s inquiry around growing our impact - how might we facilitate discussions that matter but that are often neglected or very difficult to navigate? #Impact #MEL #MandE #Learning #UnlockValue #Development #GenesisAnalytics #AfricanInsights

In today's fast-paced world, Susan Wojcicki's insight couldn't be more relevant. Through my professional journey, I've learned to embrace uncertainty as an opportunity for growth and innovation. It's not always comfortable, but it's in those moments of 'not knowing' that we often find our most creative solutions. Here's to the adventure of the unknown! #EmbraceChange #InnovationMindset

This image can be seen as young woman and old woman based on our perception. “It's a deeply subjective experience; molded by our motivations, anticipations, and the library of past interactions we each hold. This personal touch to how we perceive reality is governed by 'selective perception' - a fascinating process where we quite literally construct our experiences.
