At #ICR24, our “Basics to Breakthroughs: Building the Foundation for Resilience” panel moderated by Roger Pulwarty, Ph.D., delved into the essential frameworks required for building climate resilience. With insights from Annalise Blum, PhD, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Water and Science at the Department of the Interior, Honorable Sharon Burke, President at Ecospherics, and Aaron Salzberg, Ph.D., Director of The Water Institute at UNC, the discussion was rich with innovative ideas and practical solutions for water management and science integration in policy. In this new paper, CDRmare expert Miranda Boettcher and colleague Kari De Pryck investigate how and why ocean carbon sequestration approaches have been recently put back on the agenda as credible and legitimate mitigation strategies, despite major disagreements regarding their efficacy and safety. One of their key findings: “Marine CDR approaches are increasingly being framed as viable solutions, although it remains unclear for many scientists whether they actually work, as major knowledge gaps remain.” Read the paper here: https://lnkd.in/e96ePCfu #ASMASYS #CDR #carbonremoval CDRmare is a research mission of the Deutsche Allianz Meeresforschung (DAM) funded by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung and the northern German federal states.

In many countries, national spatial data relevant to Nature-based Solutions have not yet been developed or are inaccessible. This type of data is essential for spatial planning for areas suitable for nature-based solutions, needed to meet nature and climate objectives. 🌐🌿 A paper from UNEP-WCMC and partners examines the opportunities that high-quality global spatial datasets offer in the absence of national data to support decision making. It includes a detailed decision-tree to help national experts decide whether to use global data and is accompanied by a dashboard review of global datasets. Learn more here ➡️https://lnkd.in/dts_6xhH

Thank you to the President of the United Nations General Assembly for inviting me to participate in the informal dialogue to focus on building global resilience and promoting sustainable development through infrastructure connectivity. On behalf of CDRI, I highlighted the key messages from our flagship Biennial Report https://lnkd.in/gmvWgZK4 and urged the member countries: - To support mainstreaming of disaster and climate resilience in economic and planning decisions; - To scale up innovative financial mechanisms that nudge us towards resilience; - And, to ensure that data systems, analytical tools, and technologies for managing disaster and climate risks are treated as global public goods

I collaborate with people and institutions to bring new ideas to life | GM Canada, Carbon to Sea Initiative | Co-founder, Board Director, Halifax Tides FC
Gearing up for another season of ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) research in #Halifax, and another exploration by researchers with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in the works in the U.S. To learn more about the latter, register for this information session, August 21, 7:30 pm AST, https://lnkd.in/e5kJAvH2 A global community of practice is developing to explore if and how ocean alkalinity enhancement (‘adding alkalizing rocks to the ocean’ as I told my niece and nephew last week) can help heal the planet.
🗓️ Save the date for a virtual public information session that explores the need for ocean-based climate solutions and the critical role of science in evaluating their effectiveness and safety. In this webinar, you'll hear from Scott Doney (University of Virginia), Nina Bednarsek (Oregon State University), and #WHOI's own Adam Subhas. The panelists will also discuss the LOC-NESS Project, a scientific initiative focused on evaluating ocean alkalinity enhancement as a potential #climatesolution and cover the scope, methods, and potential environmental impacts of proposed field trials. The event will include an audience Q&A session and an opportunity to provide feedback. 📲 Register for the Zoom: go.whoi.edu/aug-21
