Sell your adaptability. Sales is constantly changing: New products, innovative software, and organizational shift every quarter. Hiring managers value candidates who will adapt to whatever is thrown at them and continue to perform, regardless of circumstances. For example, think of a CRAZY situation with a ton of obstacles and show how you navigated it in a friendly, yet positive way. Changes will happen at your company and the ones who adapt the quickest will do the best. Real-Life Example: When working at Dell, we released a new product and the whole sales floor DID not want to sell it. It’s not that they didn’t think it was a good product, it was just the fact that people DO NOT like change. While everyone complained, I started obsessing over the product, and some of the most meetings for it in the entire sales organization. Promotion Hack: Leaning into change, like I did in this situation is great because it’s an easy way to get visibility with upper leadership while everyone is stagnant. Allowing you to build a professional brand and have the potential to get promoted quickly when upper leadership is evaluating performance for promotions.

True Story from last week: Company tells me 80% of our reps aren't hitting quota! For decades the solution has been to fire the 80% and keep the 20% that are "doing what they need to do" Problem is that there are so many factors involved and the turnover machine turns into a negative culture causing the top 20% to leave eventually too.
