Silence is far from boring. Silence is a gateway to another world. To a place of peace. Boredom is the result of expecting too much from this world. Boredom is the result of addiction to culture. Boredom is like a withdrawal symptom. If you can’t find peace in silence, where will you find it? Usually what you’ll find elsewhere is stimulation, excitement, frustration, and confusion. https://lnkd.in/gEpibv-b

Continually striving for personal bests in all that I do, and in all the earned lessons life throws at me. Making a conscious effort for positive change
She is brilliant! Or just an amazing communicator. :) I once contacted the construction managers; two at the same time because I was needing solid advice and I had felt that our relationships were at that level. One called me, both emailed me. My Foreman was shocked lol. I didn’t get it. To me, I was seeking professional advice from professional friends. At a different site the construction manager walked to my work area… I had no idea who he was but I apologized for the housekeeping as he looked important lol. HE was curious about my experience. So hopefully he was hearing good things!! It was good to have people to have conversations with. I always kind fell into those situations. Even mine managers when I was mining. Never thought twice to learn. My inexperience pays off; but I really don’t see people as regal. It’s more about solid advice and trust worthy advice. Not everyone wants lowly workers to succeed. ;) As I learn an industry I do my best to observe the system and join as many committees as possible so I can learn the industry as a whole. Thus, bringing up concerns becomes natural :)

Founder @ Big Emotions Academy | Business Partner @ FIFO Mental Health Group | Teaching emotional intelligence to people of all ages through storytelling, creating safety for others to share their stories
Day 4 - finished with Bechtel Corporation. Today I wrapped up three more sessions with FIFO Mental Health Group. engaging with a dynamic group of 120 participants. A recurring theme, both in these sessions and throughout my career in construction, struck a chord with me: the misuse of banter in the workplace. Too often, I’ve observed that banter becomes a veil for offensive remarks. When someone takes offense, the common retort is, “I was just joking, mate.” This, however, is a mere mask, a flimsy justification for behavior that borders on bullying and harassment. Let’s be clear: I’m not advocating for the elimination of all banter. It has its place. But it’s vital to be mindful of who your audience is. Deep down, you likely know when you’re crossing the line. The real test isn’t whether a comment would fly in a pub. It’s whether you’d make the same comment to your son, daughter, or spouse. If the answer is no, it’s a clear sign that it’s time to rethink and recalibrate your approach to workplace humor. Remember, awareness and empathy are key in maintaining a positive, respectful work environment.

I wanted to share something personal today—my journey with social anxiety and how I’ve been working to overcome it, inspired by the principles from The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fck* by Mark Manson. I tend to become sheltered or shy away from conversations with random strangers. Walking by someone in a store or on the street, I often get nervous and resort to the typical “pinched lips head nod.” This always blew my mind because in my role as a lead inspector, I do just fine speaking and striking up conversations with my team or customers—it comes with ease. But recently, I’ve started taking small steps to push myself out of my comfort zone. When walking by someone, I simply say, “Good morning/afternoon, I hope you have a great day.” When in the elevator, I engage in a short conversation. The reactions I get are often of subtle surprise followed by relief, rather than the “why is this idiot talking to me?” scenario I feared. It’s a small, silly anxiety I deal with, but I know some of you can relate. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fck* taught me that caring less about what others think and more about meaningful connections can make a world of difference. So, I challenge you: a couple of times today, have that conversation you normally wouldn’t have outside of the little box you keep yourself in. You might be surprised at the positive reactions you receive and the confidence it can build. #PersonalGrowth #OvercomingAnxiety #TheSubtleArt #MeaningfulConnections
