Happy National Intern Day! 🎉 I remember the days leading to the offer from The Washington Post. Nothing was working out. Then, I surprisingly connected with the hiring manager, aced the interviews and had an offer! I was pivoting from computer science and this was my first “product” experience in the US. I spent the summer reviewing our competitors, conducting user interviews and presenting my findings to senior PMs and VPs. Apart from work, I focussed on building connections. Talking to PMs on other teams, other interns, participating in intern events and asking questions! This brief internship gave me a taste of corporate life and more importantly, corporate life in USA 🇺🇸 There’s so much I learnt. All the theories I learnt over 2 years, I implemented them. And this internship, was the stepping stone in my product management career. Never thought an internship could have such an impact. The Future Leaders: Reflections on Internship Experiences There’s a lot of discussion around interns these days, and as a former intern manager, I can confidently say that interns are indeed the future of many organizations. The best and brightest bring fresh perspectives and new ideas. I once worked with an intern who was unsure about their career path. They decided to take some time after their internship and turned down a full-time offer to explore their options. Reflecting on this, I sometimes wonder if that same uncertainty about career direction exists in me. How often do we find ourselves too far down our career paths to take a pause and reassess our goals and direction? Let me share my Panasonic internship experience today Honestly, when you are working at a big MNC as an intern, that too, at an undergraduate level, the probability that people will take you seriously is too less! -> You aren’t their employee who’s on a pay-roll -> You aren’t someone who is there for a long term -> You aren’t someone who will adapt to their culture in a month or two Still, they will treat you nicely, but that’s not enough if you really want to add some value and make that experience count. You have to go an extra mile, seeking to work by showing your interest and constantly proving your reporting manager that you are willing to put in more. I’m thankful to my manager to trust me as a result of which, I was exposed to the consumer market trends and how to conduct competitive analysis. You ought to take that first step because the days are gone when you used to be spoon fed! The only mantra that works here is :- ASK for it -> WORK on it -> DELIVER results #internship #experience #mnc
